mackdawggg
so ive done my searches through most of the z forums and havent been able to narrow this down yet, so hopefully someone has some helpful suggestions. i bought my 76 280z back in january and it ran fine until about 2 weeks ago. for the last few weeks that it ran, I noticed it took a couple of cranks to get it to turn over when the engine was warm, and would turn over easily when cold. so about 2 weeks ago i got pulled over by a cop and when i went to get back on the freeway it wouldnt start. since then i have towed it home, had the battery checked which oreilly told me was at 76%, i changed the starter. I checked the fusable links. so now im stumped. the battery is good , but lights and turn signals dont work. what else should i check? one day when i went to check if it would start, the start clicked when i turned the key. i immediately tried to jump it at that point assuming a good connection with not enough juice. now its back to nothing happening when i turn the key. any help is much appreciated, this is my first z car and im stumped here
NewZed
Sounds like bad battery cable connections. They get corroded. Check the cable to the connector (probably one of those aftermarket clamp-on styles) and the connector to the battery post. Including the ends on the starter solenoid and the starter bolt. Clean the battery posts. Also check you fusible link connections, under the covers, and the green ones connected to the battery positive terminal. ttodhunter
I'm assuming that the starter isn't cranking? You can get a remote starter switch from a parts store, hook it up and see if that works. If it doesn't work, bad starter. If it does work, you need to chase down wiring...
