Ost3rh0udt
i bought a 1980 datsun hasnt been on road in 10 years sat in a barn no rust on it. body is great condition. starts right up when i turn the key but the engine seems to start racing/idoling high from 1800rpms-2500. i was told to start by replacing vaccum lines cause they may b cracked so it could b sucking air !! any suggestions? OldAndyAndTheSea
Yeah, it sounds like a vacuum leak. If it pulses at an idle, like going from 1500-2500 over and over again, it's definitely a vacuum issue. Inspect all the rubber hoses attached to your intake manifold, check for leaks. Also, check to make sure your intake manifold bolts (What bolt it to the head) are actually tight, if not this could make your car run poorly as well. Once you fix the vacuum leak, you then can regain idle control from the idle control screw on your throttle body to bring her to where you want the idle to be. NewZed
What did you do to the car before you started it? And why was it parked in the barn in the first place? 10 years is a long time.
