akumazedex
So I've finally got my hands on an S30 chassis. I'm now part of the cool kids club! Lol. Just picked it up tonight. Here's what I have. '74 260z with an L28 and a 5 speed. Aside from a crapload of extra parts it's reletivly stock. Currently doesn't run but just needs some carb work. Here's a picture. This is going to take over the s130 build for the time being, at least until I get it running an junk. Look out for more pics and updates. BluDestiny
What exactly are you doing with this one? goals/hopes and dreams....
akumazedex
Leaving the L28 in running carbs for now, might switch to injection later, slammage, I've been looking at T3 coilovers since they're bolt in. And I gotta fit my 15x10's on it lol. Get a lip and a wing, some paint. Honestly Ionno how crazy I'm gonna go with the motor I just wanna get it drivable right now. jhowell34
t3 coilvers for a ae86 are bolt in?
akumazedex
T3 makes coilovers for the s30 chassis now https://technotoytuning.com/nissan/260z
BluDestiny
Yeah but you send them your strut tubes and they basically do all the welding and stuff. Also it doesn't include the camber plates, which will need to be welded in. Not worth it in my opinion since you could get the same work done, with better shocks for a more badass setup. Ultimately if I wanted to do an s30 suspension setup, it would be with koni yellow 8610 and some stiff a** GC coilover springs/sleeves. Plus all the fancy adjustable control arms etc... akumazedex
Yeah, but this way there's no downtime for me, and they offer cores for your old ones. Ionno. Cuz otherwise I'll need to find another set of strut tubes and junk.
BluDestiny
Yeah I've been at that stage for ever.... I mean I let a shop do my oil change now ( I supply the oil) for $10 because I'm usually lazy and I get it inspected since I normally do 3ish autoX days inbetween. On top of that, you already had to deal with ish like this with the ZX. So its not fun just tedious.
akumazedex
Exactly, Id rather just swap in and out, drop it on the floor and call it a day, just gotta figure out what to get with the core charge credit lol
akumazedex
So I got some stuff done today I got the 240z su's on And the filter box, need some really long studs for the cover Then I had lunch And then I swapped out to the 240z turn signals and grill, gotta cut out the horn brackets because the center valance doesn't fit. Now I need a battery and gas and I should be ready to test fire the motor.
akumazedex
Epic progress today! Got a battery an some gas, had to redo the firing order cuz it was all effed up from the previous owner, and.... Got it running!!!! Here's a link o the video http://i1234.photobucket.com/albums/ff420/akumazedex/fef033c0.mp4 Now I gotta change plugs, rotor and cap out and figure out how to tune the carbs cuz its running butt rich. Take it to work an align it cuz that's effed up to. But progress!!!! Edited April 30, 2012 by battlesquaddatsun
akumazedex
Got some stuff on the s30 today, replaced my jammed lock cylinder with another one, no pictures of that, just the tamper screws were a butt to get out. I then decided to paint the 240z tail panels. From this. To this I also got the car registered today finally $489!!! Fuuuuu back fees Here's what the plate got down to, there's one more underneath, so 84 And by the time I was all done messing around it looked like this outside so I called it a day
akumazedex
So I attempted to get the carbs tuned enough to get the car over to the shop an get ten properly done, in the process I found out that my poor 260 has a blown head gasket Right in the back left corner That being a big issue in my poor running motor I gave up and started attacking the paint. Sanding by hand sucks btw
akumazedex
Soooo, what have I done today... I failed at tuning the carbs, found I have a blown head gasket and the rust on the floor is worse than I initially thought, and that the radiator is leaking. Face palm.... At least I put a bandaid on the rust on the roof to keep it from getting worse until I get a sander an a crapload of primer. Gotta figure out what I wanna do with the motor, at this point it's easier for me to get a good long block and swap everything over than doing the head . Well see if I can find one for a good price. Today's been a pretty good downer, oh well I get payed this week so I'll figure out what I wanna do then.
BluDestiny
Dude no, a head gasket is like a 4 hour job. and it cost like $20 for a head gasket. You just need a chain chalk, some Hex sockets for the head bolts, torque wrench and a basic metric socket set for the random bolts. FYI I pull my head with the intake/exhaust on....... Wayyyyyyy faster, but its a heavy biatch to lift up by yourself. Edit: I just bought a 240sx like a few weeks ago and have been working on it for my DD. strange coincidence. How much do you have into your 260z as of now? I've been tracking all the money going into my 240sx like a hawk... akumazedex
Actually just the 2300 I paid for it lol I've got a bunch o 240z parts with it so I've been swapping them over. It actually takes like 15 minutes to rip the intake and exhaust off lol. Ps you still want that oil pan?
