srgunz
At first look, it seems like a L6 oil pan. However the bolt pattern is different. Some of the holes actually do line up. Also the drain bolt is different.
ctc
Stupid question, but did you try the bolt pattern both ways. Might be a front sump pan?
srgunz
Stupid question, but did you try the bolt pattern both ways. Might be a front sump pan? You may be right. A front sump L6, whichever model used that.
djz
Don't think it's a front sump pan, they wouldn't put the drain bung right at the front.
HowlerMonkey
That dent in the front for sway bar clearance is in the exact same place as where the sway bar sits on a R30 or R31......maybe some other cars as well.
srgunz
Stupid question, but did you try the bolt pattern both ways. Might be a front sump pan? OK I did turn it the other way and still does not match.
srgunz
Don't think it's a front sump pan, they wouldn't put the drain bung right at the front. I agree. It does look like a rear sump pan.
Noddle
You may be right. A front sump L6, whichever model used that. It's not a front sump, the drain plug is on the wrong side , Datsun 240K, MR30 Skyline are front sump.. Nigel
kiwi303
RD28?
srgunz
I bought this pan a long time ago to put on my rebuilt engine. The guy had a so so photo and he thought it was for a 240Z. Thought I would take a chance. Its still new, never been installed. But you can tell from all the scratches its been moved around for quite awhile. Who knows how it ended up here in the US. Thanks. kiwi303
RD bottom end uses the same bolt pattern as the RB... maybe take it to a mate with an RB engine and see if it matches up? As per a post above about the dent being right for a R31, the R31 skyline used the same underpinnings as the C32 Laurel, and the C32 started life with a the LD28 and was given the RD28 as a mid life facelift model change, I believe the R31 had an RD28 option. HowlerMonkey
RB20 maybe?
rayaapp2
The RB pan pattern will almost bolt up to an L series. How ever it does not look like the RB pattern The 2 humps in the rear would make it impossible to bolt it over the main cap rib and the pattern in front doesnt look like a RB oil pump would fit it. Post some pics of the inside of the pan please. Edited April 27, 2012 by rayaapp2
Xnke
Perhaps an L20 oil pan? NOT the L20A, but the L20. They are not the same.
Leon
Perhaps an L20 oil pan? NOT the L20A, but the L20. They are not the same. You mean the L20B? That's a 4-cylinder engine, the pan would be too short.
rayaapp2
The L20e I have is the same as the rest of the L series. I doubt that is it either. Well the L20e I have until tomorrow when Tony finally takes possession of it. LoL
srgunz
The RB pan pattern will almost bolt up to an L series. Post some pics of the inside of the pan please. I will try to post the other side later today. You will then be able to see that the pan has an offset on one side. The Z is straight on both sides. srgunz
OK. Here is the pan view showing the inside. From this you can see the outline of the gasket surface. You will notice an offset on one side of the gasket surface.
ctc
I just did some measurements and that pan will fit an L28. Lenght width, oil pick up and hole pattern is correct. Is your's warpped? What holes specifically don't fit? I'm at a loss. Best guess is it is a rear sump 280zx pan or something JDM. srgunz
I will show it next to my L28 pan next. You will see the pick up opening is different as are the drain back holes. And as noted by another, front is notched out for a crossmember or sway bar. Not a big deal any more as I no longer need it.
