Domzs
Why would you want to do that ? Don't think you are to get for what you put into it .
240z72
Just testing waters. Yea I figured that. Just curious what these cars go for.
RebekahsZ
Build fatigue/burn-out? Not good when a man buys a lot of guns, then starts hocking his belongings...you doin' ok? If you need to get away from the communists for a while, fly out here to God's Country and we can go plinkin', canoing and hit the dragstrip. 240z72
Haha thanks Keith! No I'm doing great. Sounds like a great offer. I'm not board or Burt out I'm just curious what kinda cash these cars bring. I know its scary talking about selling it. Honestly doubt I will. But just thought I'd see. I posted it locally and am taking offers to see how much I will be offered. 9k is my Hughes offer so far.
240z72
What? Did I get shunned for just thinking about selling my z? Haha. I've gotten a few offers. Highest was 10k. Not worth it to me. As I'll never find another z this clean. Or some of the deals I've gotten for parts. So calm down I was just testing the water! Needless to say it wasent right yet. I'm gonna look into doing a head job. Along with new lifters and maby a cam as I'm getting a slight knock on the right side after its been running. What I've read is a lifter can be getting stuck. Ive read horror stories about stock springs breaking and destroying stuff. Work has been busy so I haven't had much of z life. What coil over spring rates are you all running? I just installed some 250lb springs and damn its stiff.
RebekahsZ
I think you may have gotten no reply because it is a tough question. When I would have sold my car I couldn't get anybody to give me an offer. I think CrayZ bought his for $6000 but he had to totally redo the diff. If you can turn a profit, sell it unless you have an inescapable illogical emotional attachment to it, which on my opinion is the only reason to own a z. There are so many "better" cars available now days. I just spent 2 days getting my ass handed to me in autocross, and I've been working on my car for 20 years, trying to make it respectable, and I drove my car faster than anybody else who drove it (trip report to follow). The driving school was great, but the competition day sucked. Now the night at the drag strip was another story altogether😀!!! I didn't see a tail light all night! I only have 2years in drag racing "development." That may be the best place to invest "hybrid" time. Damn tough to beat a 250hp turbo miata (no where even close). It was ugly. Did I read that correctly: you want a head job? That means something non-mechanical in my neighborhood and it costs about $20 if the latest estimate was correct. 240z72
THE BUILD BUG RETUNRS! I had a bug just to see what somebody would give me for my z. Highest offer was 10k. Not too shabby. Anyway that bug was eaten and crapped out by the build bug. I had these wheels layen around from a previous 240 i had. I installed some bigger springs in the back and when i set it down the ride height was kinda high so i said f it il see if i can fit my wheels..Well with slight modification i got em on and working. Heres some pics. Also picked up some bad ass floor mats from a friend that had a z once apon a time. The pics are crap but you get the idea. I have a nice airdam on the way along with flares. If they get here soon enough ima try and install everything this weekend. I even got some welting on the way also for that clean look. Wanted to get a nice duck tail but not enough funds... Will take some pics forshur. Any imput of how to fasten the flares? Nuserts? Rivets? Tips, Tricks? Ive read and read but you can never have enough info! Domzs
It's going to look good with flares . I bought them last year but haven't installed them . The wheels that i just bought look ok without flares . Looking foward to your flares installation . I'll do them later when they come with Rota RKR in flat back with ZG flare offset . thedarkie
Great build and a sweet ride- good on you for not selling it, you'd probably regret it. For informational purposes though: I bought my 74 with a carb'd 302 swap (fresh build, relatively mild but has plenty of performance goodies on it) for just shy of 11k last fall, and that was for a car that had a rotisserie restoration and fresh paint just 2 years ago. R200 diff, arizona z car coilover suspension and rear brakes, newly built T5 trans, panasport wheels, etc etc. It's not a show car, but its quite well built and sorted. You have to find the RIGHT person at the RIGHT time to sell a project like yours, and even then you should jump for joy if someone coughs up 15k! 10 is what I would've guessed you would receive offers at. 240z72
Domzs: Well I hate to dissapoint but im not going to do the flares. I taped off the fenders and layed them up. I liked to look but honestly felt like i needed to drop the car about 2 inches to make them look right IMO. As of right now I have zero issues with the tires im using. Also I have about 4-5 inches of oil pan clearance. Soooo In exchange for peace of mind about my oil pan ill just leave it as is. I like the beef-cake look. Maby later down the road Ill install them. gtslo88: Thanks bud! I always enjoy having people reading my build thread. I remember reading other peoples build threads for this exzact build think man one day ill be able to start mine. Now im driving mine almost everyday! Going to the bank has never been so fun!! Just start some where! Lil by lil you will get it going! Keep motivated and read threw this forum and ls1 tech along with google search! thedarkie: Yea I would of regreated it as soon as it drove away. Im glad i dident and i honestly wasent going to sell it. I was just curious what somebody would offer. Sounds like a mean ride you have! Well I did manage to get a few things done on my z. First of all I got a nice XENON front air dam. Best price around new is from Black Dragon Auto. checked z store and ebay. Just left it black as im going for the black on white look. Install went easy and great. Only complaint is that they should of included better install hardware. I ended up buying new longer bolts, more washers and nylon lock nuts. After I got that all I did was vise grip it in place and I used a small spray paint can for models and sprayed the holes to marks where to drill. Worked great. Drilled the holes and boom it was on. Swapped over the turn signal lamps and I was done. I also just got my clear lenses for my front turn signals. Havent installed them yet so no pics. I did have to remave the bumper to remover the stock airdam. Which is in great shap so if anybody needs it LMK. Anyways. I decided to shave the bumper. I removed the two uprights that are in the middel of the bumper and the rubber trim. I plan on welding the holes and having the bumper re chromed one day but for now its fine in my book. I love how it looks. The wheel and the airdamn make the z go from grandpas car to mean machine. After that was done I turned my attention to my interior. Which has been out since the swap. I made a cover for the stock "lower" gas fill tube hole. Which really cut down on noise.. I painted all the rear plastics black and bought new rivets. I used some other tower leathers I had from another car. The original ones were faded and eaten by the sun. All in all it went well. Damn plastics are so brittel though its a tuff job getting them in and out without damaging them. I plan on painting everything red in the car black asap. Not much of a fan of the red. But hey its betten the butterscotch or white haha.. Edited May 3, 2013 by 240z72

240z72
Thanks tnt823 for the feedback! Im glad my thread was good enough to read to the end! Update. Nothing huge. But im glad its done. I installed the JTR intake i had layen around. After installing it, I ran the car long enough to kick on the fan and my god the poor motor was just sucking in so much hot air! Not any more! I also polished up the tubes a bit. Hit them with the bench grinder wire wheel and then scuffed them diagonal with corse steel wool to make a nice pattern/finish. Oh yea i also installed some Dapper lighting modern projectors! AND THEN THERE WAS LIGHT!! Edited May 30, 2013 by 240z72

Phantom
240Z72 - YOu mentioned something about 250lb springs being really stiff. Depends. I have 200 front and 250 rear with the Koni fully adjustable rebound shocks. At full stiff it is a brutal ride but perfect for an autocross track. At the mid setting it's a very comfortable daily driver. Full soft in the front and firm in the rear sets it up for the strip. Qualifier, however. My car is a customized 280Z That weighs 1,440 lbs on the nose and 1,560 lbs on the tail so it's probably 500 lbs heavier than your 240.
