RebekahsZ
Is there a proper way to clean the old locktite from the bolt-hole recesses in a ring gear? Or don't worry about and just add more? Also should I use red or blue locktite when re-assembling?

stony
Tap and air is what i have always used to clean out threads of locktite. you for sure don't want to leave it in there.
NewZed
Old-style brake cleaner (chlorinated), MEK, ethyl acetate, acetone, THF or nail polish remover should work. The new environmentally friendly brake cleaner might work, I don't know what it's made of. Mineral spirits paint thinner probably not so good, not polar enough (chemistry term, sorry). http://www.loctite.com.au/cps/rde/xchg/henkel_aue/hs.xsl/3286_AUS_HTML.htm Near the middle of the page. cockerstar
I've always just used a tap to chase the threads and blown it out with compressed air like Stony has. I haven't ever bothered with a solvent.
