alainburon
Does the nut on the right in this picture require a washer like the nut on the left?
JMortensen
Yes, at least that's the way Nissan does it.
alainburon
Yes, at least that's the way Nissan does it. Thank you, I thought so but I wanted to be sure.
johnc
Yes, without the washer the nut might bottom on the stub axle threads.
SUNNY Z
For sure. it needs something to slide on or you might get a false torque reading as well. USE ANTI-SEIZE that little tip could have saved me about $
alainburon
Thanks for the advice guys, especially using anti-seize.
JMortensen
I always use red loctite...
alainburon
So just to make sure I have this right. Anti-sieze on the splines and loctite on the threads right?
SUNNY Z
Anti-seize on the threads, grease on the splines. That is, if you want to make sure the nut comes off next time. But that's my $0.02. So that advice will cost you $0.04, roughly. Edited January 24, 2013 by SUNNY Z
duragg
Well crap... I did neither of those things. Someday I am going to resurrect this thread and report back. Hopefully 10+ years.
johnc
I don't use loctite on the threads. I do use grease on the splines.
RebekahsZ
The first time I did a stub axle I thought "never want to do that again!" I've done it 3 times now and it isn't so bad. I now own a 3' breaker and a 300# torque wrench. Now, I still never want to do another spindle pin...even though I own a puller.
