loy
One person grounded every 2 out of 3 teeth, added a hall effect sensor and made it a 30-1. http://forums.hybridz.org/topic/77233-30-1-tooth-wheel-with-cherry-hall-effect-sensor/ Another section in here http://forums.hybridz.org/topic/23244-megasquirtnspark-mssmsns-installation-guide/ talks about removing the wheel and re-drilling the alignment hole and rotate the wheel by one whole so you know it's about 72 degrees. skirkland1980
I'm not sure what you're asking about timing. Are you asking how to get an rpm signal to megasquirt?
Tony D
All requested information is in the Megasquirt EMS Sub-Forum at this site. Edited February 15, 2013 by Tony D
destro79
ok i have a stock n/a 79 280zx would it be easier to install the 79 distributor for my turbo build or get the 81 crank angle sensor and install it or even get the 82-82 dizzy, i will be using the megasquirt wiring. skirkland1980
Depends if you want ms to control ignition timing. If so one of the turbo dizzys will be easier to set up. With the na dizzy you would need to lock the advance mechanisms.
destro79
ok that makes it easier cause i would like to control it by computer (ms) is their a link on how to lock the advance mechanisms on the n/a dizzy (for temporary use)
skirkland1980
One guy said he used jb weld. I have a small mig welder so that's what I used.
destro79
the problem for me isn't what to use to lock the mechanism but what exact part and how to access.
skirkland1980
I don't know of a link but you will have to completely disassemble the distributor. Once you're in there you should see how the mechanism works and figure a way to lock it. Maybe the fsm shows this?
destro79
from what i recall it doesn't show how to disassemble the distributor but ill look when i get home
skirkland1980
You should only need a roll pin punch and a phillips screw driver if memory serves.

destro79
you think its possible to use the advance with the mega squirt system without locking the dizzy and have it work fine? just came to mind and hows this for disassemble and recondition? http://atlanticz.ca/zclub/techtips/distributorrebuild/index.html Edited February 16, 2013 by destro79
skirkland1980
That exploded view should help...and no, the dizzy needs to be locked.

skirkland1980
I'm not real sure I've never had to pull one. Is it damaged?
destro79
im just trying to find out what would be easier to do, install my 81 turbo dizzy and get a crank pulley and sensor for it, or cut my loss and by the 82-83 turbo dizzy and shaft, unless the 81 turbo shaft would work?
skirkland1980
I'm thinking you may have to pull the front cover. I'm not sure if the oil thrower will come past the seal.
destro79
oil thrower? haven't heard of that part in my search yet.
