GreenState
So..... '71 240z with the stock 4 spd transmission (3.3) and STI R180 diff (3.9). I have a 5 speed 280zx transmission (3.9) here I want to install. Will the stock 240z driveshaft work or do I need to do something else? Thanks! 74_5.0L_Z
You will most likely need a custom driveshaft made. It's not that expensive. I had my Ford T5 to datsun R200 driveshaft made for about $250 (twelve years ago). That price included balancing and all new parts: tube, u-joints, slip yoke and Neapco adapter flange . All you need to be able to tell the driveshaft shop is the center to center distance between the u-joints, the make and model of the transmission, and the make and model of the differential. Any decent shop should be able to do the rest.
Mike C
I swapped a ZX 5 speed into my 240 with the R180 and used the stock driveshaft. I'm not familiar with the Subi R180, but it's a long nose as well, correct? Seems like a chance it will work. I had a shaft made for my Nissan T5 and 12mm R200 swap. It has a new Nissan yoke on the front and I used a 1310 rear joint on the NEAPCO adapter. It was about $250 as well. Came from WENCO. nissun1
I'm sort of in the same boat! I modified my bellhousing to adapt to a 240sx tranny and was wondering the same thing!
d3c0y
You just need to take the flange on the front of your stock R180 and put it on the subi one as they are different.
