brianZortiz
Hey, my friend has an CLSD off a z31 turbo. He installed the unit after convincing him it was a good upgrade for his car. It was installed into a 280z. The differential when driven for a long time or on the freeway for some good amount of miles (like 20), the differential starts making some noises like loud clunks when turning. It even makes the noises switching lanes. In the morining or after the car has rested for a good amount of time, the noise is gone and car drives fine and clsd works. But, when some miles are put on it, the noise (loud) returns. I was hoping some of you guys can figure out what his problem is? I was thinking of Backlash, but not too sure. Inputs? I also checked Half shaft and traded him with mine and noise is still there, so im assuming thats not the problem. Thanks Hybrid. Domzs
Did you use correct fluid in the diff ?
brianZortiz
He has Valvoline(dont know what weight) that includes lsd additive and used 1/4 Lucas oil stabilizer. I am posting for him as I have driven his car and he doesnt have a hybridz account yet.
RebekahsZ
I have the same problem when making low speed turns like from a stop sign or when driving around the autocross paddock or a parking lot. I think this is LSD"chatter" which is when the clutches stick then release suddenly instead of slipping at a smooth rate.
brianZortiz
I've read another post from you Rebekah, same issue. It seems like you used more friction modifier to reduce the symptoms. What friction modifier do you use? Is red line good? I'm thinking of helping him drain some diff fluid and add 2 tubes of red line.
brianZortiz
I'm not familiar with LSD chatter, but man it is Loud! I would be embarrassed if I had to drive a date around town.
RebekahsZ
That helps a lot, but didn't totally relieve the noise for me.
JMortensen
Any friction modifier is basically the same. Might be labeled GM or Chrysler or Ford, all does the same thing. Ford is usually cheapest.
brianZortiz
Great, at least I emphasized how loud it was and got nothing back as Not normal. So I guess it filtered down as clsd "chatter". Thanks for the help!
