Need the genius LS guy opinions

Recommended Posts

To narrow or not to narrow that is the question (rear end that is). Its either flare it or narrow it cant decide. Basically I got tired of all the broken half shafts and did a solid axle swap along with the 5 lug swap up front. Just need to make the 35mm spacers for the rotors so I can keep my 4x4 calipers. Now before i get the IRS is way better than solid axle answers I simply prefer a solid axle. My engine is just a 5.3 with 160k miles small cam and a t56 nothing special but deffinately a half shaft eater though. Wheels I believe are 2006 6 cylinder mustang rims got a good deal on them. New axle is an 8.8 with a triangulated 4 link and coil overs. Unfortunately the exhaust I just made a couple months ago must now be redone due to the new setup.

I'm far from a genius in anything worthwhile but it would seem that flares would be the simplest option.

I have put a little time in forming 2" wider qtrs. I have a long way to go on them but I think they will work out.

I was considering doing flares similar to yours.

They are pretty rough right now but I don't have a whole lot of time into it. Basically I cut paperboard templates of the existing qtrs and added about 1/2" and then started beating them out with a poly hammer and pad using a profile gauge to match the factory qtrs. I had to make a couple shallow pie cuts to get the lenghtwise profile. I have a little more trimming and hammer work and then I'll hit it with a shrinking disk, hopefully I don't have to use a gallon of filler!
