Retro Z
Hi from Melbourne Australia. Wondering if anyone can tell me what this item is. Its a little square box screwed directly to the sheetmetal just in front of the coil and behind the fresh air duct. It has a plug that looks almost identical to the TPS plug on my efi intake with 3 wires. I recently unplugged it and one of the pins snapped off as it was corroded, so i need to replace it with another or something similar. Is it some kind of ignition module? My car is going yet, so i cannot test to see. The engine is a L28et from a us spec 1984 280zxt with microtech Lt10s. Any help would be appreciated. http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/20/92gf.jpg/ http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/856/du7f.jpg/ Edited September 5, 2013 by candy33
Domzs
Don't think they built 280ZXT in 1984 . 1983 was the last year of 280ZX . 1984 that when the 300ZX came out . But it looks like a transistor for ignition system or an ignitor . Don't remember seeing one in my 83 turbo .
Retro Z
Thanks for your help. Sorry im not too familiar with 280zx's its what i was told by previous owner. The engine is a P90a/f54 going into a 240z. Anyone have any idea where i could purchase one of these? Could this item be specific only to the Microtech ECU? as i also haven't seen other Australian 280zx's with them

noelawinslow
I agree. Looks like a transistor unit. If it's an l28et look into getting a PWR 2 transistor from ANY later VG model Nissan (pathfinder, maxima, etc) and wire that in. Superior and cheaper if you go to the junkyard. NewZed
Use an ohm-meter to check the pinout to the Microtech ECU plug, and the Microtech wiring diagram to determine what should be there. Why guess?
Retro Z
Thanks for the help guys. I ended up finding it by using part of the part number and done a broad search on the web. It is a tridon ignitor module and is interchangable with ones used on nissans/mitsubishi/hyundais. Found one for $30 on ebay Thanks.
