Guest Anonymous
I am slowly adding stuff to my 260. I have a decent engine, recently rebuilt and bored out. I have the round carbs, headers, car is lowered and runs well. Where else can I go for performance? What can I do to continue adding speed to my existing setup. Any help would be appreciated. Mike C
Cold air induction, good exhaust past the header, aftermarket coil/ignition box, 3.90 gear set, and the most expensive but most power, cam swap.
Lockjaw
Not much to add here. A cam would be good, as would exhasut work. 3.90'S will make a big difference. Good luck.
Dan Baldwin
Perhaps most important, you should figure out what your compression ratio is now, and increase it to ~10:1, more if you've got a cam. Will probably require shaving the head, unless you swap in a 280ZX NA bottom end w/ flat-tops. This gives you torque and power EVERYwhere. '70 - '72 heads are good for CR, as are the N42 and N47 280Z heads, which also have bigger valves. N42 is the only square-port, big valve head that offers good CR. A 5-speed would be good to go with a shorter-geared diff. The 4-speeds have big gaps between the ratios. Z 5-speed has a better 4-5 shift (.864:1 5th), while the ZX box has a much better 2-3 shift but a tallish .745:1 5th.
Boobala
I've heard good things about the following combo... * 280ZX NA bottom end w/ flat-tops. (Casting Code = F54) --The 280Z (N42) bottom end w/ flat-tops is good enough. * Early E88 Head w/ Larger 280Z Valves. (casting Code = E88) OR, --P90 Head shaved .080" (avoid the P90A head) * and of course, the Cam of your choice. --262/272 For the street (Good from Idle to 6000rpm. Very good from 2500rpm to 4000rpm) --280 degree cam For Auto-cross and what-not.(3000rpm to red-line) --290-310 degree cams For full race only. (anything above 4000rpm)
Guest Zpeed
3.9 or 4.1 rear, will give u that extra punch get an exhaust if u don't have one.. 2 1/2 or 2 1/4 up to u which u want... get better air filter for the carbs... if u don't already get the 5spd... get the compression to 10.2 or so and add the cam... all u need to beat most stock cars out there...
