tyson
I have a 81 280ZX Turbo, Auto trans. I need a couple quick answers if anyone is running one. Is the ECU the one for a TURBO or a NA? I have heard conflicting stories on this one. The MAF sensors are all the same correct, turbo or NA? Are the wire harnesses different between the two? I would really like to start on this conversion asap, all the parts in the MN junkyards are N/As, so I need to know if I am missing anything. And I definatly want to know if I need to skip out on the local NA ECU and order one from out of state. Thanks - T
SleeperZ
I use the turbo ECU. It seems to me the ignition timing would be better suited for a turbo motor. The MAF sensors and injectors are the same, turbo or N/A. There are minor differences in the harnesses, but the basic sensor connections are still there. BTW, multiple posts on the same subject are discouraged here. You might want to delete your duplicate posts.
DAW
If the turbo uses the knock sensor and the na not, then that's a great reason to go with the turbo ECU...in fact knock sensing could be useful if harnessed in a hi-performance na engine. J Taylor
The mass air sensors are all the same but the turbo and na injectors are different. JT
SleeperZ
FWIW, the knock sensor would not work on my Z31 setup on an L28ET. I kept getting the check engine code for knock, I pulled it, and the code is gone, but no knock sensing BTW, I did a bit of research on the injectors. For the earlier (or later, it's foggy now) model Z31s, the injector part numbers are the same, so I (ass-u-me) they flow the same.
fl327
that conversion is fairly straight forward, i can remap that z31 ecu for a reasonable price to work with the l28et in an s30 or s130. for the mas air sensor, you reverse the pin connection, and ground one of the pins to chassis, at least 15hp gain instantly and a good foundation to build power out of.
