deuce8ernerozero
I'm rebuilding my l28 in the near future and i would like to get the nuts and bolts on the motor listed so I can amass replacement hardware before i tear into the motor. With respect to bolt kit vendors, it is probably cheaper to spend ~$120 for an engine hardware kit. But, for those people like me that want to know. This thread is for you. I will start this off by saying that i know from a good source that the manifold studs are 8mmx1.25x45mm Edited December 8, 2013 by deuce8ernerozero
Xnke
they're listed in the FSM.

Xnke
And the manifold bolts are NOT all M8....11 M8, 4 M10, or 6 more M8's...depends on the year and the head.
deuce8ernerozero
Thanks for clearing that up. The guy that told me was running carbs.
Joeoski
I would like to get a setup that uses all bolts with washers and no nuts but the grade of metal and size of the bolt heads and washers has me in a infinite guessing search 2000 pages and am still hunting for info, Main thought is that rear stud for number 6. TimZ
If you like ARP fasteners, their Flywheel Bolts for the RB26 work just fine with the L28 as well, plus they are longer than the Celica Bolts that used to be the only thing available: http://arp-bolts.com/kits/ARPkit-detail.php?RecordID=4597 Also, I've found that these work well with my Pressure Plate and Fidanza flywheel - you might find them slightly long depending on your flywheel. I used an ARP 8mm washer under each head to prevent interference with the starter ring gear... http://arp-bolts.com/kits/ARPkit-detail.php?RecordID=471 http://arp-bolts.com/kits/Bulk.php?PL=68&M=*&W=*&D=7&P=*&WS=*&B=1 Edited December 12, 2013 by TimZ
z240
New and ARP stuff for sure where it counts. I have a couple of favorite metric hardware suppliers. https://www.belmetric.com has JIC spec bolts, nuts and studs. Think new shiny 8mm nuts that have a teenee tiny 12mm hex head like the stockers, for $0.18 each. And metric acorn, wing and fuji nuts! Even copper exhaust flange nuts.. ooooohhhhh.... http://www.clipsandfasteners.com/ has gold/cad zinc plated SEMS metric bolts that are reasonable in price and they have a decent selection. Sometimes it just nice to have pretty bolts for front cover, water stuff, etc. Search for "SEMS M8" to get you started.
Joeoski
would this kit work ? http://www.ebay.com/itm/390706276617?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649

I guess it depends on your intake setup, but I think you'd have a really hard time getting at the circlips and retainers to install or remove those fasteners. deuce8ernerozero
It might. My dimensions are for studs.
TimZ
It might. My dimensions are for studs. They might be the right size and length, but I was referring to the ability to actually use them where they will have to be installed. In most applications it's difficult enough to get at the nuts on the studs for the exhaust manifold, let alone trying to get the appropriate tools in there to R&R the retaining devices and the snap rings that hold them on. Lazeum
Here's my file I had some guessing with front cover bolts regarding length, do not hesitate to get some extra bolts with shorter and longer bolts. They should cost you $0.10 a bolt, it is a cheap insurance to get some extra ones. Take everything with grade 8.8 hardware. Flywheel & damper bolts needs grade 10.9 hardware if you'd like to change them also. However, for flywheel hardware, I would follow ARP recommandations given by others. Total cost was less than 30€ on my side of the ocean for the total set with zinc plating option. To get this list, I used a thread gage and a caliper to measure each bolt I took out from the engine. Time to source bolts will be much shorter than engine rebuild, I would advice you to control them all to be sure. In the file, "Grower" is the technical name for spring washer.
