wickiewicked240z
I have a 82 280zx turbo distributor. I want to extend the original wire/replace it with new wire. Can I buy shielded cable 4 wire and connectors and make my own.
winstonusmc
I have wrapped foil around the extension and put shrink wrap around it. That is almost whats around some shield wire anyway. Just make sure it overlaps the original shield.
winstonusmc
Quick search http://www.waytekwire.com/products/1463/Shielded-Cable/ 39 cents a foot for 3 strand. Ground can be extrnal. If I look harder I might be able to find 4 wire. This was a search for "shielded automotive wire" it was the first result. wickiewicked240z
Yes I saw that site. But I'm looking for 4 wire like the original harness. I don't now much about wiring seems like the stuff I find is for houses.
wickiewicked240z
Would this work http://www.ebay.com/itm/16-4-awg-SHIELDED-STRANDED-WIRE-CABLE-CNC-STEPPER-MOTOR-ROUTER-CONTROL-10-FT-/181107278336?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2a2ad5c200
wickiewicked240z
Or this one http://www.skycraftsurplus.com/164braidedshieldwhitekynarjacket.aspx
winstonusmc
Yeah, that second one has braided shielding, which will be easier to attach a wire to. The foil wrapped shielding is pretty week and breaks easily in automotive setups.
cgsheen
18/4 AWG Shielded works just fine - been using it for nearly 2 years for my CAS signal. I made an entirely new harness when I changed to the M30 ECU and that's what I used. All the way from the distributor to the ECU.
