NewZed
Consider the HEI module replacement. At least it's a new part. Apparently it runs the coil just fine using the ECU square wave instead of the GM VR signal. Skittle wrote it up on zcar.com. Just a cheap option. 83turbo280zx
I've got an HEI ignitor unit (BORG WARNER BRAND) lifetime warranty through O'reillys, and its already mounted on an aluminum bracket and wired, ready to swap in with the appropriate wiring diagram. $50 shipped to your door. I accept paypal @ this email address sk84life1122@sbcglobal.net Also feel free to contact me via e-mail for pictures, information, etc. as I don't get on the forums as much as my email Thanks! -Chris

A good alternative indeed. But This is for a car that needs to pass smog. The 83 NA style plug is different from all the other years. It appears this hei swap would be the same is if I used a 82 or 81 IC unit just say. The 83 has the second plug to control timing differently during cold start and idle.
