stony
Anyone have any experience with running nitros and a turbo? if so any tips? any special things i would have to do different them if it were a nonturbo motor?
Drax240z
Stony, try talking to 240Z Turbo about the setup he had. I think he had NOS to help him with his spool up, and then it kicked off at a certain boost pressure. Sounds like a great way to us NOS if you ask me. BLKMGK
The NOS will greatly increase exhaust flow - that's how it helps the spool up. I'm not sure there's anything you'd need to do special to run with a turbo except perhaps to run a little rich. I can't help but think that the higher temps associated with a lean mixture would be good for the exhaust side of the turbo? Detonation would be doubly bad too! Guest Anonymous
well, i am currently building a 3.0 l L motor with NOS and turbo.i have heard of shots of NOS overloading the stock wastegates and overboosting the motor.on my motor i am running an external as well as a factory wastegate.for every 50 hp the timing should be retarded 2* .i am currently using an msd digital 6 with built in timing retard ( it would work great with a single fogger set up). as for tuning a wide band 02 sensor or at least a air fuel ratio gauge should be used, unless you like the look of rods poking through your block. fl327
i like the nitrous and turbo combo, that way you can run bigger turbo with that high rpm big boost with negative lag. a gnx we just had at the shop that had been built by my boss had this crazy 7th injector on the fuel rail that came one after 17lbs, and a nitrous hookup that went right to the turbo blades, beauty, pure beauty.... mid 11's in a 4500 lb car with the window down drinking coffee, thats on video tape! BLKMGK
I'm confused - NOS injected at the turbo blades? Dry system or what? I'm trying to picture how that helps - increases volume in front of the turbo, jump starts the blades.. GN's are pretty darned cool though, a shame GM hasn't got the balls to build something like that anymore, it might actually sell to the car enthusiasts! 240Z Turbo
I have run a 65 shot ontop of 18psi of boost with no problems. The result is very drastic as far as performance. For a small shot like a 65hp I do not think you will need to jack with the timing, but try to limit boost to about 15psi on pump gas. As with additional boost make sure you do not have any knock and it is good to use your EGT to tell whether you are running lean. I would keep the EGT's in the 1550F-1600F with the NOS and pump gas. I will probably spray on my new TT setup if I am confident it is all dialed in. If you have it kick off at a lower boost level the results are not as noticable in my opinion. The real fun occurs at full boost with the NOS. The funny thing is a small shot can potentially reduce knock because of drastically decreased intake temps, just have to watch for too much cylinder pressure. Oh well, enough rambling! Guest Anonymous
I saw a system on a Supra that sprayed n2o until 4500rpm or so when the turbo came on line, then it sprayed n2o onto the intercooler... Really helped lower intake temps!
