z ya
I already have an H pipe from an 01 vette but if the x pipe is that much more superior I will go that route. The exhaust is not in yet so I want to do it right the first time. Basically is it worth it if I already have a free H ?
DavyZ
I guess a lot of it has to do the "umpteenth" amount of power you want to sqeeze out of the car, and is it really necessary? Not really. If you were starting from zero, I'd definitely, without question tell you to go X-pipe (the design lends itself to better flow from a bench standpoint anyway), but that's not the situation. You have the H-pipe, so use it and save your money. An X-pipe is "sexier" Davy
pparaska
I agree. And I have an X-pipe. 10 hp (if that) is hard to find, and the state of tune of the vehicle changes that much over time. I'd just keep the H-pipe.
BLKMGK
I'm thinking X Pipes are a bit overrated. Maybe on a full on race car they make a difference but the shop I deal with claims they see next to NO difference in power between the two. Sound difference yes, power - not really. If you've got an H nearly ready to go use it and be happy...
Guest Tom Scala
I went from an H to an X on my 68 GTO with a relatively mild 455 Pontiac and gained an average of .2 and 1 MPH in the 1/4,from 12.40's-.60's @ 107-109 to 12.20's-12.40's 108-110 depending on weather & traction with no other parts changes. Everyone else I've run across has had similar results untill you get into the 500HP+ range then the gains are smaller. Most of the gain was in the 60' & 1st half of the track meaning,I guess, low end was improved more than top end HP. Never been to a dyno so I can't be totally certain. z ya
I think i am going to bite the bullet and go for the x pipe. It looks like from what I have read to be the best. With the x pipe and my new spintechs this thing should sound MEAN!

z ya
What kind of x pipe does Muffler tech carry? Are they Dr Gas? Do you guys think and x pipe is an x pipe regardless of brand or type?
Nigel
I've had great success with the kalecoauto.com "O" Pipe: "You've heard of the Y pipe.. the X pipe.. the H pipe.. nothing can touch the O pipe!!! It provides 100% backpressure feedback on ALL engines!! Torque increase and kuneutson valve float brings in much lower revs so you don't hurt your motor! Pipe shown is powdercoat black for car with DUAL EXHAUST. Not CARB Legal. Please specify Stainless or Powdercoat and also if you are using dual or single exhaust. 3" diameter." fl327
i honestly dont think that the exhaust means a dang thing to an na motor, maybe turbo is different, but i think a good flowing no cat system of an h or an x will give similar results, except when you are trying to shave a tenth and youre in the 10's, then you need to do some research, other than that, play on playa.
