how much hp can i hit befor i have to make up a tube frame chasis? how much structural support did u guy's add just for the avrage v8 say 300hp?

i would like to mention, the reasion i ask is i bought a 6-71 blower to mount on my 350 that is what or i hope is going to be droped in to my 1977, 280z. i'm hoping i can get some good answers befor i make the big mistake of not having enough support to back the motor. i was thinking of just dpropping in a stock rebuilt 350 until my blown motor is finished. well tanks of the help!!!

HI CARUMBA!! icon_eek.gif With 330HP I have shock tower braces and a roll bar. Cruisin about it feels solid, hard throttle or hard cornering, ah, could use a little more.6-71 on a 350!!! get the torch and the pipe. Your going to need a rigid frame if you hope to put the power down. Good luck with it!! icon_cool.gif

i wanna have some fun with this project,

and show the viper in town how it is!!

the guy rides my ass when i'm in my 300zx n/a all over the place tring to get me to race. i know i have about no chance. he does the same thing to findes of mine. most of them own some sweet Volks Wagons. but mainly i wanna have a good challange

i know i have to cut the whole in the hood for the 6-71 but. i would have gone with a paxton or something else. but a friend of mine needed some money so it was a hard deal to pass up.

thanks for the post!

Well, I threw the mongoose out the window and that was that. Seriously, unless you're drag racing with some serious slicks, you're not going to get enough traction to do too much damage anyway. Some effort on this site toward cages has been done, but I've always wondered what the "torque specs" of the rear control arms are if you had a senerio of unlimited traction and engine torque with a bulletproof driveline. Where would the weak link be in the chassis? The rear control arms or their mounting points, rail stiffness ahead of the firewall, etc?

A Viper? Is that all you're worried about? Is it stock? Kripes, throw a nitrous kit on the car with about a 100shot. I'd expect most any decently built V8 would toast him once traction was gotten. I honestly don't think Vipers are anything to be too afraid of and if you had a blower sticking out of the hood why the hell would he be stupid enough to race you?

What's a Viper weigh? If it's not stock it could have some decent power (some around here are pushing 500 horse) but I'd still expect it to weigh more. 300horse motor, 100horse shot, some drag radials - might be an interesting race icon_biggrin.gif Who's seen stockish Vipers go down the track?

Okay, so how hard is it to get a SBC Z into the low 11s? icon_smile.gif I dunno what mine runs but I'll bet it's low 12s right now not running quite right (assuming shafts hold!), 11s should be no biggie and there's nothing super special about how mine is put together.... I don't think we need 600hp monsters to get the job done guys

i just picked up my z today finially.

any way, i'm not shooting to hit any high hp. 600 would be about the extent. thats really too much.

cuz it's probably going to waste any way cuz of traction. but i have plenty of time to do this project any way and figure thing out. i'm not going for any speed records on building a v8 z.

i'm only 21. i'm not ready to crash and burn yet
