LT1 wiring delete

Recommended Posts

Hey LT1 guys. I think I have gotten my wiring for the PCM figured. Can anyone confirm that the input/ouput wires that I have determined are unnecessary, can actually be deleted. I just to make sure that I'm on the right track. It is from a 94 Z28 with T56.

Here goes (these are the wires that I think are unnecessary):

RED Connector :

7,9,10,11,12,14,15,23,25,31,32

BLACK Connector :

1,7,8,12,13,21 (28, 29 I can't figure out what they do?)

CLEAR Connector :

11,13,15,16,28,29,30

BLUE Connector :

2,6,8,11,12,15,24,20,28

These numbers are PCM plug numbers.

Thanks,

Tim

here's the wires you do need.

On your Black PCM connector you need to

add constant battery power to pin outs 15 and 31. They should be orange wires.

Ignition power (switched 12V) will be on the same black connector in pin out 30,

should be a pink wire.

For the Red connector you will need to add grounds for pin 2, which is Black

with white tracer. Also ground pin 18, this is Tan with white tracer. Also

ground pin 31.

For the clear connector just ground pin 32, Black with white tracer.

For the blue connector ground pin 1, Tan with white tracer. Pin 3 needs switched

12V power, it's pink in color.

this is from Terry over at TPIS. he got is for me from one of their universal street rod harnesses.

he also said: Just add power where it needs it and grounds where they need it. Plug everything in and it will fire. Also make sure your switched 12V power leads have 12Volts while cranking not just in key on position. hope this helps,

Need help from you LT1 swap experts. Got my motor today, 1995 Camaro with T-56.

Problem is don't know where to start. It there some manual/instruction sheet/compliation of dos and don't available.

I have the JTR Datsun Z V-8 Swap manual, but it does not cover the LT1. Is the LT1 swap covered well enough it the other manual ( I believe it is the S-10 manual) to be a good guide, specially when it come to identifying the functions of the wires that are not connected to a motor switch/sensor/injector?

Does anyone know of a wiring diagram that they could email me?

Thanks in advance

Jay,

You're going to have a few issues to sort out.

1. accessory/belt placement. If you plan to use the A/C and P/S, then space is a consideration, and if you plan to delete the A/C and P/S, then belt routing is the issue.

2. The wiring. You have 3 options. You can buy the painless kit (big$$$), send your harness to be sorted, or wire it yourself.

In any event, you should spring the $$ for the factory service manual (around $100). Other than that, follow the JTR book.

If you are going to put that motor in your car, get that factory service manual and study it for a couple of weekends befor you start. Good luck, Mark

Red 31 VSS ground and 32 VSS sig will help drivability. Black 28 and 29 are 5V reference voltages sent to your sensors you need them.

Blue 20 service enable is part of the ALDL link and you need it to reprogram your computer. If your not using a charcoal canister you dont need Blue 10. I'm keeping red 7,10,11 black 8 and blue 6 on my car but you dont need them.

I have the strong feeling that some others have completed the stock wiring adaptation of the LT1 to the Z. I am also certain it was a big job. I am midst of a LT1/T5 swap into an early 260, so no automatic to contend with, and speedo has mechanical drive. Would someone who has successfully rebopped the stock LT1 wiring harness be willing to share the fruits of the hard work as a valid starting point for others like myself? A couple of above posts are just great and are indicative of lots of available talent. ....john

It should not be exactly the same, because the LT1 Vette has a seperate, master computer. As for the PCM wiring itself, it should probably be the same. I have a pinout diagram of the PCM somewhere and they should be identical, the PCMs are the same part numbers so far as I know.

Looking at Tunercat.com I find that there are two seperate PCMs, I think RevB was a late 95 thing?

16181333 or 16188051 94 - 95 Y, F & B CAR 5.7L, LT1 (FLASH) (incl. 'Rev B')

My 94 Camaro has 8051, I dont know for sure what the 1333 is, maybe thats the Vette.

If you need a for sure answer, www.LT1Edit.com is a good place to ask, as best I seem to recall though that LT1 Edit would not work with the LT1 Vettes because of the master computer issue, but I could be wrong, I appologize for my poor memory.

Go to this site for a further explanation of the

different PCM's used.

http://www.fuelinjection.com/portinj.html

Powertrain Control Module (PCM)

The PCM is a programmable computer and does not contain a EPROM or calibrator as did its predecessor. The PCM contains a Electronically Eraseable Programmable Read Only Memory (EEPROM). This unit must be programed before being placed in service. These Units can be re- programed for any engine / transmission combination. All of these units are Sequential Port Fuel Injection (SEFI).

PCM

Model Year GMpartNo Engine

BF 1994-1995 16188051 5.7L LT1

Y 1994-1995 16181333 5.7L LT1/LT4

F,Y 1996 16214399 5.7L LT1

F 1997 16242921 5.7L LT1

F,Y 1997-1998 16238212 5.7L LS1

The Y model is your vette and 16181333 is the PCM#

With the correct cable you "should" be able to program the unit just like the Camaro (F) body PCM (16188051) that I have.

I also found this poking around:

"The 1333 is the corvette variant. It is actually a 16188051

with an extra chip to run the OBD-II bus for a link to the

corvette Central control module. It can be reprogrammed for

the F and B body's."

In addition, write to Andrew at AKM as he can most likely answer all your questions on programming the PCM and the different flavors that GM used.

I have a 95 Corvette LT-1, but I decided I didn't want to hassle with the different computer(s) so instead of buying the Corvette PCM/harness, I bought a Camaro PCM/harness. The only thing I have to do to make them work together is to move a couple of wires since the accessories are mounted on the wrong sides of the engine. Some reprogramming will be in order too.

I looked at my computer and it has the part # 16181333 witch is the Y code Computer. Just to make everything clear it looks like all I have to do is wire it the same as a F-body car get the right cable for my computer and then use the lt1edit to take the theft device of the computer? I hope this is right.

Thanks

Mike
