timh
I have a '75 z with a mildly built 350, edelbrock 600 cfm carb, Holley blue pump and regulator (installed in stock position using relay kit and stock fuel line without a return line). The fuelpump seems to be overheating after 5-10 minutes on the road, the pump shuts off and I'm stuck on the side of the road for about 10 minutes while it cools down. Has anyone had this problem? Any recommendations? Thanks in advance!
BLKMGK
Some shots in the dark here. Is it near the exhaust? Is it getting enough voltage? When it dies are you sure it's still getting juice? Is it possible the fuel lines it's feeding are too small? Hrm, same pump I'm considering...
timh
I've read in other postings that the stock fuel line is around 5/16", which is supposed to be sufficient for most near stock engines. I'm not sure what the voltage is, but with the relay kit, I figured it was ok, probably should check it. As far as it being near the exhaust, I've read other postings saying that they've mounted the pump in the stock location without problems. Thanks for the ideas. quote: Originally posted by BLKMGK: Some shots in the dark here. Is it near the exhaust? Is it getting enough voltage? When it dies are you sure it's still getting juice? Mikelly
....I'd make sure your wire is 10-12 guage wire all the way through the circuit. I'd also make sure your pump is atleast 6-8 inches away from any exhaust pipe. I wouldn't recommend driving the car until you sort this out. You are basically killing that $100 pump, taking many hours of service off the life of the pump with each overheating cycle. MYRON
I have the same pump, as do all of my drag racing buddies, they are usually bullet proof. I would try going to a larger diameter #6 or #8 AN lines. The problem may be because restriction of the small feed lines not allowing enough fuel to flow through the system. Fuel is also the coolant and lubricant for this pump... BTW: My buddy is running a 450hp buick with a 150 shot of the gas on 1 Holley Blue pump. The car runs low 11's...
