boosted280
Can anyone post pics of their mount setup of a rb20 in a 280zx. The mounts I have didn't work.
bestlowrida
what mounts do you have? I just got my rb20det but have yet to mount it in my 240z.
boosted280
The wrong ones apparently. Haha. My engine only came with one so I bought a pair off flebay and apparently they were for a different rb. I've also heard that the bolts holes on the crossmember may need to be slotted. Any one have any input?
ihiryu
I can't help you with the ZX. For the Z though, I used mounts from car from the 70s. I know in my thread I posted it up on what I used.
boosted280
Any one else's return line hit the steering unit?
bestlowrida
did you have to wind up slotting the holes?
Wizzurp
You have to if you want the motor to clear the hood/sit low enough.
boosted280
I had the motor trans in there but was concerned with how it was sitting in there. The shifter was more towards the passenger side of the hole in the floor, meaning the motor was in there at a angle.
boosted280
Are yalls trans straight in there or slanted? Wanna know how mine should look.
winstonusmc
So its not a 280zx, its a 240z. Its also not an RB20, but it is a 2wd block. Those are R32 mounts. My transmission sits in the stock rear mount. If you have any cast aluminum mount? One mount from the R33/34 is cast.
ihiryu
I think the S130/S30 have different subframes. I think the S130 is closer to a S13 right?
winstonusmc
The S130 and S30 mounts are the same on the L-series engines, so the angles should be the same on the subframe mounts. boosted280
Those mounts appear to be at a 90 degree angle. The other guy I seen pics of with a rb20 in his s130 had the mounts with like 45 angles. That's what makes me question it.
winstonusmc
Take a picture of your mounts
boosted280
The one one the motor is what came with it. And the black ones are the ones I ordered. You can see the one that was modified to match.
winstonusmc
The left one is correct but that passenger one is incorrect. My mount is about 90 degrees from the side of the block, yours seems to be about 45 degrees. It almost looks like when installed, your engine would almost sit straight. It should have a 10 degree lean to the LHD driver's side.
boosted280
I have replacement ones coming from a guy. So when those get here I'll install and post a pic then.
boosted280
While im waiting for my mounts and oil pan to get here can someone point me in the direction of the best wiring write up for a zx? or is the one that is a sticky on here the best? Wizzurp
Use the Z guide so you know what needs power on the rb harness, bust out the diagram and multimeter and find the appropriate wiring on the chassis side to wire it to. Took 20 minutes for my car, it would probably take you something similar.
