ImportRacer
Anyone ever think of doing a swap with the WRX motor and drivetrain? Think it could be done?
ZROSSA
Anythings possable but, that wont fit between the frame rails. They are a real pain to work on as well. The first time I changed the plugs on my wifes legacy gt turbo (wrx motor) it took four hours. Goes nicely though and has a wicked growl when pushed. fl327
i dont think it would that easy, the z has a long engine bay, but not wide enough i think to accomate the fwd formation of the motor, plus you would have to fab up your own front suspension, and it would be a pain in the ass to work on, but it would be nice. Guest Anonymous
The only 4cyl i would even consider for a swap would be a Nissan SR 20 turbo , with a big turbo and mabey a shot of nitrous.these motors are light tough and make tons of hp. 260DET
Yes, the SR20 is a better engine than the WRXs, and its a Nissan. The only plus for the WRX engine is that it sits lower and therefore lowers the centre of gravity, less body roll.
ImportRacer
Who said anything about the WRX being FWD? It would be AWD of course. Not saying that makes it easier...probably harder, but just thought I would clear that up.
fl327
who cares if its nissan or not, were not zcar.com here. of course the wrx is all wheel, but the motor is left to right like a front wheel, making the placement even harder than just making your own front suspension, you pretty much have a tube frame situation there. Guest jens
A sierra/escort cosworth 2.0/T5 with a 360 hp chip and injector kit would be the easiest way. Several westfields, lotus super sevens and kitcars uses this engine. But if you want special sound a 5 cylinder turbo volvo/audi might be the answer. ImportRacer
Im not looking to do the swap. Would involve more knowldge than I have at this point in time in fabricating stuff and what not. How easily does the SR20DET fit in there? I do want to build a 240 roadrace car and have been having a hard tome deciding what would be the best option. Ive been thinking a lot about the 2JZ but the SR20 might be cheaper and easier. But I want mad power with ease, could this engine handle that or would 400-500hp (or more...*evil grin*) be a lot of stress on it?
ImportRacer
Or a 1JZ since im a old school fan and was going to put one in my MKIII supra when I still had it. Just not many parts availible for it in the states.
Kennysgreen280zt
Just to clear up some more , the Scooby motor is a flat 4 boxer motor. not a transverce mount I4.
Joe-Z
that would be cool to have two 4 cylnders in a Z and have real all wheel drive and kenny welcom to bellingham hope to see you sometime Joe-Z
awd92gsx
Well...the S2K isn't exactly the most torquey engine on the planet...but...if you want revs, then it certainly has them with a 9K rpm... I think If I was going to run a NA Honda engine, though, I'd run an LS/Vtec...or even better yet...a CRV/Vtec...H22A is nice...for a Honda engine...that's pretty much the engine of choice for most H guys. Guest Anonymous
I think you'd need to run the S2000 Vtec motor, the FWD honda motors rotation is the wrong way I'm told. Regards, Lone
Guest Azel
Lone's right. The FWD Honda motors are unique as the rotate the opposite of most any motor. So realistically the only option you have is the S2k motor. Never driven an S2k, but if the motor doesn't put out a minimum of 200 lb/ft., why bother? awd92gsx
One of the 4G64/4G63's just dynoed... 551hp 470tq running 24psi and no more than 7k rpm. There's a few more in the works...
awd92gsx
Ok, I was just *told* about 200lbs...I'll keep asking around, though...could be right...the engine is pretty light...I don't have to many problems slinging them around...
awd92gsx
I'm going to estimate a little less than 300 lbs.
