Fairladylove
I have a 83 L28et 280zx. I'm looking to make 250-300hp with a 5 speed manual. I've been looking and readings threads for months and cant find what transmission would be best. Could someone help me with this.
FricFrac
Use the stock tranny - it's pretty decent. If/when it fails the S13/S14 is probably the simplest/cost effective/available. The Z31 turbo/Z32 is one of the toughest Nissan trannies but it's more work to adapt
Fairladylove
Awesome thank you. Will any year work or do I want to stay closer to the year of car on the s13/ s14 and z31 and 32? The engine I bought didnt come with a turbo. If I put a t3/t4 on there will the stock injectors support that. I was thinking of putting bosch 440cc injectors on. Would that go together good with the t3/t4?
Brad-ManQ45
No - the stock injectors won't support your goal. The stock turbo injectors are good to about 240...
Fairladylove
Will the 440cc?
Brad-ManQ45
Yep.
Fairladylove
Cool thanks for the info!
FricFrac
Buy matched injectors. Stock injectors can be out as much as 10% from each other (tolerance is +/- 5%). People tend to glaze over this critical piece of equipment. You could be running dangerously lean on one cylinder but have a moderate AFR reading since it only averages all six cylinders. Fairladylove
Awesome thanks for your knowledge. Stoked to start this build.
Fairladylove
If I put bigger injectors. Do I need to buy a bigger throttle body and fuel pump as well? Or will stock work?
Brad-ManQ45
You don't NEED a bigger throttle body, but to get a TPS that has variable resistance instead of just on/off/full throttle most use one from a 240SX...
NewZed
No turbo yet, big injectors, big TB, worried about breaking the transmission... Could the OP be overlooking the most important part? Possible? Probable? Haven't been around for a while. The site seems different.
Fairladylove
I was just asking for knowledge about stuff. I only have the engine and was just wondering about injectors and Tb. As for transmission I was curious as to what trannys would work for my car. What am I overlooking? I would like all the knowledge I can get
NewZed
You'll need new or modified engine management to run bigger injectors, non-stock turbo, bigger TB, etc. Megasquirt or Haltech or one of the programmable Nissan systems. Wasn't sure that you knew that. Many people new to engines think that they can just swap bigger things on and get bigger power.
Fairladylove
I appreciate it. Yeah I bought a megasquirt 2. What can I all delete to clean this motor up. So many hoses and stuff.
NewZed
Learn what stuff the hoses do. Not kidding. Nissan didn't just add hoses for decoration. It's all described in the FSM.
