280z-racer
ok here is the deal. i have decided to bolt the p90 head to my 76 block and go turbo. Im new to the turbo scene, so i was wondering if i good get some advice. what turbo should i run and what accesories are good (IC, wategate, BOV, ignition and fule management). i dont necessarily need 400hp but there is an 86 300zx that i really need to spank. also what pistons, rings, and cam are good to run to help with this setup. any advice is welcomed. if you coul email me it would be great. Guest Anonymous
keith you said that cause you know i would read it. As i see it 400rwhp costs a lot of $ but is quite possible and reliable

PETEW
You guys say that getting to 400rwhp is very expensive. I was wondering how much do you think it costs to get to a 300 rwhp motor. Can you keep the stock ECM at this level? The reason I am asking is that I have a choice of a '82 turbo motor and 5 speed or a '86 mustang 302 w/ 5 speed. Both are around the same price so which one is the more inexpensive. The turbo motor is the easier initial swap (which is big benefit in my eyes) but I'm guessing the 302 has easier and less costly HP potential. I want to use the car for some autocross and some drag (both for fun), so that also has to have some bearing in my choice. Thanks for the help guys. J Taylor
300rwhp is easy with a stock motor. My 280 is making 340 at the wheels with a stock motor and stock electronics. I am hoping to get close to 400 at the wheels once the dfi goes on it really soon. On the other hand I am contemplating selling all my turbo stuff and throwing the 5.0L sitting in my garage into it with a big nasty cam, some nice heads, and a big shot of gas. Can't see me actually doing that though...too much fun busting ass on "fast" cars around here then showing the straight 6 under the hood. Guest Anonymous
JTaylor. what mods you got in there? 330 is a LOT! I was hoping for around 350, I'm doing a slow and constantly increasing list for a buildup (now I'm swaying on stroking/boring to a 3.1... if I already have to buy forged pistons.... .. I know.. this is the initial mistake of thinking a 3.1 will be cheap).. hmm who knows, depends on what kind of hours I can get at work and how long I want to not be able to afford lunch Sounds like you're running a good setup... t3/t04? What boost.. water inj.. what about fuel? Got any pics? BTW, have you painted the taillight brackets yet? The duct tape holding mine up is starting to deter.. J Taylor
980mak: Basically all my car has is a t62 turbo and a huge bell intercooler. It has some bigger injectors and a mass air that has been messed with to half ass accept the bigger injectors. I was lucky enough to buy the car almost as-is and have a big headstart on the buildup. About 3 motors ago the car made 358 at the wheels with the same setup. I am putting yet another motor in maybe this weekend and waiting on the dfi before I make any good boost on it this time. The car runs really strong but is on the jagged edge with this setup. I have several pics o n my webpage if you want to take a look. Guest Anonymous
Its GOTTA be the intercooler j/k, you have an all-around great setup. How much was the i/c and the t-62? I was gonna go with a spearco with similar core/endtanks, I prefer the siamese flowing (a tall core, rather than wide one) rather than running i/c pipes behind the radiator, puller fan, etc. If I remember correct the i/c I was looking at was like 23x13x3.5, flow rating up to 1040 and I was told was a fine setup for a 3Bar boosted 2.8L, by a turbonetics dealer in seattle. Anyway, I wish I could afford a nice big new i/c like that but it would be another month of saving for my project.. with a t3/t04, a good sized i/c, sds 6f, and much larger injectors, I am hoping to pull well over 300 hp and run 12's after some other mods. I'm thinking I won't end up stroking because of the major expense, I figure the cheapest I could go would be like $1200, I've heard up to 5 Grand for a totally built setup. My buildup is mostly for street, however, so I figure I'd probably run around 1500 if I could find some deals on everything except the pistons, which I'm sure I'd end up paying full for JE or Venolia to forge some for me. Anyway, I'll keep everyone updated with my project, right now its just the money issue and taking everything into the machine shop. Later! -980mak
