Guest Anonymous
does anyone know if the bbk f body headers will fit in the z? part #'s are 129-15960 for 93, 129-15670 for 94-95, 129-15680 in the current jegs catalog. seems to me if the stock manifolds would work so would these. am i off my rocker? nic
Tim240z
Stock manifolds don't work, so I would highly doubt these would either. Sorry Tim
Guest Big Phil
I just ordered a set of LT1 block hugger headers from Street and Performance for $235. They are uncoated so I have the option of adding the smog fittings on them before I HPC coat them. Since they were designed specifically for the LT1, they should work flawlessly with D port heads and angle plugs. The gentlemen on the phone was very familar with this type of swap and he promised I would have no clearance problems. I'll keep you guys posted. P.S. I also bought my serpentine pulley assembly (deletes PS as well as raises AC compressor and altenator) from them along with various other parts (ie. fuel line relocation kit, corvette engine covers, etc). Their stuff is not cheap but their service is excellent, their staff is knowledgeable and their parts are high quality. flibuoy
If the brackets from Street and perf fit and headers too how about a followup post and maybe #s, price john
Guest Anonymous
Big Phil, I also run street and performance stuff on my Z. Sounds like the same setup you have. Stuff looks and works great. You are right about customer service, they know what they are talking about.
Guest Big Phil
The speed and performance headers did not fit. So I went with the Hooker block hugger headers shown in the JTR manual. I added AIR injection fittings and EGR fitting so I could retain my emissions equipment. I also added dual O2 sensors to the bolt on reducers. The AC and Altenator brackets fit perfectly but you have to exchange the 10" dogbone bar for a 7 1/2" unit. The 7" inch bar connects the AC Compressor to the throttle body and the 9" bar connects the Altenator to the throttle body. There is a picture of the engine bay on my site, I'm still waiting for the 7 1/2 bar.
Guest Anonymous
Big Phil, Just curious, did street and performance take the headers back? MArk
Mike C
Check out the Patriot headers on Jegs website. They show a D-port block hugger for angle plug heads, coated! for only $225. They use cone connection instead of gaskets at the collector as a bonus!
Guest Big Phil
Speed & Performance took the headers back without any problems. The fit and finish was flawless, too bad they didn't fit. The mounting flange for the reducers is exactly where the steering rod is located. They offer to build me a modified set at no cost but it would have been a major hassle. Guest Anonymous
Those guys have been great to work with. They are a bit more expensive but the customer service is great. Mark
Guest Your Car is Slow
Big Phil...did the hooker block hugger headers you bought have the Dshaped ports to match the LT1? The ones ive found all seem to be generic round ports.
Mudge
I haven't seen any D port headers, if anything a round port header might offer some anti reversion since its not "port matched" to the head. I have seen/used SLP headers and MACs and they are all round port.
Guest Your Car is Slow
Most LT1 specific headers ive seen (although not hugger style) have the D shaped ports on them...although this immediatly turns into a round tube (obviously)...it does indeed match the port on the head. Ohwell...they are only 50 bucks for the round headers...Ill makem fit for that price Thanks!
Mudge
I could just be totally out to lunch, my SLPs had a 3/8" thick flange but I dont recall a D on the flange to header, oh well... If it offers anything, it would be a little better gasket seal, I like Felpro I think 1308? Anywho, Felpro gaskets for the LT1 are my fav. Nice and relatively thick, reuseable, and the ends are cut so you put the front and back header bolt in place (just enough to hold the header and not damage the alum threads), and then slip the gasket in place! Trying to put headers/gaskets and bolts on at the same time by yourself really sucks, not fun
Guest Big Phil
The hooker block huggers do not have D shape ports but they fit the best so I'll just deal with them for now.
