Guest Anonymous
Im thinking about this combo. I know the 350 fits in there, just wondering if theres a clearance issue with the Vortech with the driverside strut-tower? If there is an issue is it really in the way or could a few swings with a BFH take care of it? Thanks!
z ya
I have been pondering the same thing for my next motor?? Either the Vortech or the Procharger carb blow threw set up.
Guest Anonymous
It would make alot of reliable power, hopefully it isnt too big of a deal.
Mike C
IMO, the carburetor is the deal breaker. Spend the extra money the pressureized enclosure costs towards FI. The only reason forced induction has done well in production cars is because of the electronic engine controls. Carbureted forced induction was fraught with problems. Guest Anonymous
So the Votech carb enclosure isnt any good?
dsommer
I'm going to chime in for just a sec I WANT ONE FOR MY BOAT!!! My boat weighs in around 4500lbs, 300HP big block through hull exhaust and a bravo 3 outdrive. It's torquey, responsive and runs (by the speedo NOT GPS) 62MPH (boat guys save it remember water "feels" faster haha ) Go for it but do the EFI route, the increases are MUCH greater in EFI applications than carbed apps. That is the reason I won't procharge my boat because I'm carbed see this link: http://procharger.com/marine.shtml Remember boats run at much higher RPM's for a duration of time than cars do, well er uh or we would all be in jail I spin the 454 in the boat at 4000 to 4800 RPMS for 10 to 20 minutes depending on water conditions. I luv boats and prochargers because there ain't no speed limit on my lake
Mike kZ
Does anyone know if the carb SC setup would work with an aftermarket EFI setup like the Edelbrock EFI that I have.
ToplessZ
I know this is an older thread but im curious as to the answer to mike's question.
Guest evl
I think the main issue would be making sure you get more fuel with more boost. I think this is a MAP setup, but I don't know for sure. The MAP sensor they use probably wouldn't be able to measure positive pressure, so that would be a problem. Someone else might know for sure. I suppose you could try makig the fuel pressure relative to the manifold pressure, or you could replace the computer. I've been working on switching to a MegaSquirt myself. Anyway maybe someone with more specific knowledge can help you out, but given its been several months since the original question, I figured I'd throw in my $0.02. Guest Zcarsmakemyheadhurt
Edelbrock can program a chip for forced induction but it is not rated for over 500hp, you can't run a super large injector. The best set up for a SBC in my opinion is a downspout adapter with a 70mm+ T-body and the correct intake (Victor Jr. in most cases) machined to accomodate 8 injectors. Run that with a programable EFI (DFI, or Microtech) and your good for the big horsepower. Or you can mod a Holly, they are tricky but can be done. The info is out there. I have a buddy that makes over 800hp on a rotary engine with a Holly and those engines have a higher fuel consumption than a Small block. Love to see it, good luck.
