Guest Venture-Z
What are the best plug wires to use with the Crane HI-6? Do they make a noticable difference?
Mike C
I like Taylor SpiroPros. However, any of the twisted conductor supression wires will be sufficient. MSD, Mallory, Accel all make such wires. If your current wires are good, it won't make much difference, if they are not, it can make a HUGE difference. Stock wires have something like 5k ohms per foot minimum while spiral wrapped solid conductor wires are 40-50 ohms per foot!
Mudge
My belief is that generally a low impedance performance wire is going to be about the same as another, other than workmanship quality as far as ends ripping off etc. Insulation is nice for high heat areas, but the wires in these cars dont see as much heat as a V8 with headers. For the Camaro I burned 8.8mm MSD wires in a couple months, fat insulation and HUGE plug boots, but headers are just too close on that car even with short (cold) plugs. I got some 1500º boot protectors after that, so if this is for a V8 car keep those things in mind. An alternative that may work almost as well is over the valve cover looms. I use Taylor 8mm now and with the boot protectors work great.
Owen
Jacobs makes ceramic boots or boot protectors, http://www.jacobselectronics.com/products/sparkplugs/ultraceramic.htm http://www.jacobselectronics.com/products/sparkplugs/profitceramic.htm I burned an MSD wire too, did an amergency replacement with another wire...now I have 7 red wires and one blue! Do you guys use pre-made kits for a V8? And do you use the angled or straight boots? Thanks, Owen
Mudge
LT1 uses angled 90º angled plug wires, its going to depend on your setup/clearance yada yada. A V8 car in a Datsun though, I think with fenders being where they are you would probably want angled. I've been using pre-made stuff, but there is nothing wrong with making your own either, get exactly the length you need.
