wigenOut-S30
Hey guys, I have been looking at these. I found a site that has them for like 360. That seems alittle more then I have heard them go for. Has anyone used them in Z cars? Do they work? Looks like it would. Thanks..
Mudge
I haven't really heard good feedback yet. I heard of someone who liked it for about 2 weeks, at which point the unit started losing strength. Then another poster talked about the metal chunks in their rear end, so basically from what I can tell it is snake oil. Are you drag racing or AutoX/RR? $360 for a couple aluminum blocks and springs seems ridiculous.
wigenOut-S30
Yeah I kinda agree. It seemed alittle bit.... Well way to much for what is used. I heard some testomonials of like neons and hondas that were using them.. But I wanted to see if anyone with some real power was using them.. I autoX and do alittle bit of the straight line stuff. I would like to find a 3.7 LSD but they are very hard to find cheap.. Thanks..
Mudge
Rears for these cars aren't cheap unless they are open yeah. Other cars can get Torsen diffs (like a Quaife) for $300+, that is one area the Z guys get reamed.
evildky
phantom grip sux, they help a little for a little while then it open diff again, don't waster your monty, and by the way whereeer you got the $360 don't shop there, pahntom grips can be had for about $280 so someone is ripping you or the jacked the price even more, cheapest route to traction would be an 87-89 300zx rear end, nissan clutch type lsd, lots of other nissan R200 lsd can be found at the junk yard as well, I helped a bud install a PG in his crx last fall, may as well not be in there now, remember these honda and neon guys are the same ones that put giant squirl catchers on the fronts of the cars and blue lights on their windshield sprayers
73BOTIZ
Check the drivetrain section, I left a post there on my Phantom Grip. The unit is actually heat treated steel, not aluminum. Mike D.
wigenOut-S30
Well I dont think I will be going with PG.. sounds like it is not really worth anything.. I will hold out for a 87 3.7 LSD or may end up with a quafe.. no time soon though.. Thanks guys..
Mudge
No time soon for me either but I searched on 3 boards and one email list, and I got no good feedback in long term situations, however they dont know machine work like Mike so who knows. I am going to stick to R200 rears for the interest of longevity, and thusly a welded or PG setup doesn't go along with the longevity thing, I would rather set it, and forget it, and have the performance. I still dont like the prices, but that is the market for these cars, good rear setup costs what the car does.
