Mudge Posted April 7, 2003 Share Posted April 7, 2003 I have an 83 turbo EFI schematic, but the car (73 w/82ZXT) will still not fire. So, I am tracking down the wiring that goes through the firewall into the cabin, the only thing the EFI diagram covers here is to the ignition and to the computer, the ignition is already spliced into my stock 73 harness and I've checked the EFI portion of the harness, distributor, injectors all go back to the proper pins on the ECU. One thing that raises my eyebrow, there is a second green relay that is labeled EGI relay, this is not the one shown on the EFI diagram however, it is in the car and has a seperate wire color scheme, on of the wires is cut, its about 22g (thin) and is solid black. So, if anyone has this it would be greatly appreciated, william@fortmason.org can accept large attachements, if anyone has it. Thanks! I'm not sure which wires are spliced to what cause they are all wraped in electrical tape the whole length of the wires but I can show you which ones are cut. Is this the info you need? Mudge Posted April 8, 2003 Author Share Posted April 8, 2003 Anything is something, alot of the system works so far as I know, coil has voltage etc etc, but the computer is not commanding the injectors to fire. I have traced back the distributor wires and they are good. The injector leads are also going to where they should, as the injector bank is supposed to fire, the computer drops a positive lead making them receive one negative, and the other is always positive (making 0 volts without car running or injector fire), anywho the computer resists doing this for some reason so I'm trying to figure out where I went wrong. To make things easier I've trimmed the harness down a bit inside the car, so I can try and make sense of things. Being such a prehistoric engine, the fuses aren't labeled either, so I dont know what is critical and what isn't. Plus it would allow me to trace some things from there. Any quirky things like grounding pin 10 for the engine to start, would be a help by those who have done the swap. Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Mudge Posted April 9, 2003 Author Share Posted April 9, 2003 I completely tore up the wiring harness, seperating what was un-used, for the sake of trying to make some sense of things, which is difficult with so much wiring that was not being used. Does anyone know what the green and yellow IGN start (position 5) wire goes to normally? I assume it doesn't tell the computer anything, but otherwise I'm about out of ideas. I have pinned out everything being used on the car, distributor, ignition and so on, and cannot figure this out. mobythevan Posted April 9, 2003 Share Posted April 9, 2003 I think you find that the condenser is more of a noise suppressor. It is actually a capacitor. I dont have one on the car now and I'm looking at all avenues as to why it wont startup, so that is one thing I have to put on there to eliminate as a possibility. I was just going to use fuses to pick up power for the ECU and fuel pump, so I am looking for a starting point to figure the current rating for fuses. Mudge Posted April 9, 2003 Author Share Posted April 9, 2003 I think I'm finally getting somewhere. I have tracked down the wiring harness, now all the way back to the key. BW at the IGN goes nowhere. GY goes to some portion of the harnes that I'm not sure is hooked up to anything, tracing now where it is supposed to end up. Black Red goes to a blue relay that I guess is accessory or ign relay, not sure that is working. This is part of ON but not part of START, and it looks like accessory relay, so I'm not sure its important yet. WB splits to another relay labeled EGI relay in the car, not the same one as the important EGI relay, so not sure on this one yet. Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
