Anyone seen the 600+hp Sunfire in Hot Rod Magazine?

Granted, I will give the guy credit for the work he has done. He has a turboed Quad4 engine in the car and claims 625 hp (I think), and a 2400 lb car. The car is a bit Ricy for my taste, but overall is fairly clean. It would be a great sleeper if not for the big stickers on the side.

Now where I have issues. The article does not mention his best et, only that he can run "11s all day". There is a lot of difference between 11.01 and 11.99. It seems that we have a member here with a similar weight car I have seen run 10.36 with "only" about 500hp. I respect an 11 second FWD sunfire, it is a great accomplishment, it is just that something does not add up, or am I totally missing something? I think the article said he was from CA. Does anyone here know him?

What do a 1000hp supra...700hp supra..and a 400hp supra all have in common.

11sec timeslips :)

Almost right :D The punchline was 12 second timeslips :-D

I bet the same problem exist for the Cadavelier as for the Supra - TRACTION! It only gets worse for a FWD car.

My buddy has a 94 Supra TT. His engine was dynoed at 403HP at the crank. He only ran a corrected 13.02@117 on street tires. I watched him run and, although he did get alittle tire slip, he definately wouldnt be in the 11's on slicks. 12.7 MAYBE. And yes, I got the joke, but I know one 400HP Supra that for sure doesnt run 11's.

Supras are the kings of the dyno....most log more miles on those drums than they do on the street.

dyno this..dyno that....sure there are a few fast ones around...but 99% will simply just try to dazzle you with what the car displayed on a printout.

If the reference to a member running 10.36 is me, my car actually weighs in at 2,750lbs. I can understand a 600hp FWD running 11s if I see a MPH to validate the claimed HP. I give you an example. A well setup RWD that can launch properly will run mid-9s @ 140+. The turbo Civics that run in the Pro-import classes also run mid-9s but the really strong running ones are trapping at or close to 160mph. A 2400lb car with 625hp at the wheels that only runs 11.01 SHOULD trap at 160+ if it truly has that much HP. Does not matter how badly you mess up the 60', if you have the HP you will still register a huge MPH number.

Draw your own conclusions.
