Guest Night_rider_383
Competition Products has GM rods thats been magnafluxed, shot peened, side clearanced, resized, weight matched within +/- 2 grams, ARP rod bolts installed for $109.95 a set. Would this be good insurance for a 350-375 hp 350 c.i.d daily driver? Here's a link to them http://www.competitionproducts.com/page68.html I was'nt planning on buying rods or rod bolts but then I got to thinking my rods are 33 years old, and its better to do it right the 1st time around than pay the price later if something lets lose, and with this I only pay out a few bucks more than buying ARP bolts and having the machine shop to installed them and resize the big ends. Do yall think I should replace my stock rods with these or at my power level and use would the stock rods and rod bolts be good enough? Thanks John
Tim240z
weight matching to 2 grams is no bragging point!! Need to get them to within .5 gram or better. If you have a set of rods already, just give them the full treatment, or get a set of Eagle Rods, or similar. Tim
Guest Night_rider_383
Thanks Tim for the reply.. I'm still at a toss up on the rods, cause working over my stock ones will be about the same or higher than the ones I asked about. You figure $35 for rod bolts, $64 to have bolts put in and rods resized. That $99 right there and thats w/o adding for magnafluxing, and shot peening. denny411
Summit has rods that have been resized, stress relieved and have arp rod bolts installed. You should always have the rotating assy balanced, regardless of how closely match the componets are beforhand.
Mikelly
Nightrider, I'm in a similar boat with my truck motor build and I'm trying to keep it on the cheap... However, For basically DOUBLE the cost you could have some decent forged rods. Check on Ebay for forged rods from CAT and SCAT. 4340 and 5130 H and I beams can be had for Under $220 and they are balanced and matched sets...
