i searched on this topic already and went to modern motorsports, but I didn't find a conversion kit for the front..just the rear. someone want to fill me in on how i could go about doing this to the front?

you need to get a set of front hubs off a 84-89 300zx turbo. they have the 5 bolt hub. the bearings are the same but the dust seal is different. the only thing you have to watch for is that the 5 bolt hub will stick out an extra 3/4" over the 4 bolt so the offset on your front wheels will be different than the offset of the rears.

the measurement is 2 15/16" for the 4 bolt hub.

so now here is the big question, if I do flares front and rear and want a 5 lug pattern on my 240z, i can buy a 300zx hub for the front, and then buy the 5 lug hub for the rear from modern-motorsport? And then, how bad does it screw up the rim offsets? Can i still use a 16 or 17x9 or 10 with a 275 tire?

I do have coil overs. I see that, but just like my other thread, these cars really manage to confuse me, they dont have off sets and sizes im used too, im used to shopping for newer high end imports like rx7s, supras, 300zx's... My supra fits an 18x10 with a +45 on the rear, the Z i guess is like a 17x9.5 with like a +30 or something?

READ the thread in my last post again. i think ivan280z mentions his offsets being +20 and +40 for the fronts and rears. he also mentions he's running 18's. if you look at the picture of his car you'll see that he is also using stock fenders. the reason i posted the link to that thread is so that i wouldn't have to retype what someone else has mentioned before.

I see, but if you re-read your thread. unless im totally missing something, he says he ran a +20 and it stuck out to much, so he put a +40 on the front and it fit perfect, nothing about the back, nothing about a 10-11 inch wide wheel with fender flares, nothing about what he did for the 5 lug in the back, im assuming he bought the conversion hub from modern, but above is mentioned a 240sx conversion, which i havnt heard of, maybe a type, i dunno. and since there are about 5-6 ways to get a 5 lug, from redrilling to using this hub to that hub, and you can mix it up front rear, i listed above exactly what i do, that way from there i could get some help figuring out exactly what I need, like in his post, where Ivan240z or whatever says he hopes the other guys wheels fit different than his because i guess they had different conversions for the 5 lug.

the 5 bolt front hubs from the 300zxt sit 20mm farther out on the early z spindle. so to compensate for this you will need to get your front rims with an offset of +40 and the rears will need an offset of +20. the easiest conversion for the 5 bolt rears is to see Ross C at http://www.modern-motorsport.com. he will redrill your rear hubs, modify the dust shields and install new bolts. the 240sx upgrade is refering to a rear disc conversion you can do using certain 300zxt rear 5 bolt rotors. ivan280zt's wheels fit just fine, he was talking about someone elses wheels. as far as flares go i think you would first have to decide on which style you wanted and then measure up for some wheels from there. the offset won't change only the width of the wheel. some of the flair kits require that you trim off the lip of the old fender and therefore you would gain more clearance for a bigger rim also. there are a lot of variables that have to be looked at before you can make a decision on wheels. i think that is the reason you are having a hard time getting any concrete wheel size related answers out of people because everyone is running their own unique setup.

ok, that is part of what is so backwards to me, im used to a smaller offset in the front, not in the rear, that was the wall blocking my logic from working. I got it now, I will get the 5 lug, with the MSA IMSA flares, should be able to run my 17x11 then, with a smaller, say 275 tire stretched versus the 335 squared. Especially with the coil over. I Pm'd Zr8ed. he has the big ole' wheels and tires. He uses a 17x11 with a 4.5 backspace and he uses stock spring perches and he says he has room for a 345, so I would imagine, my runnin the same wheel size with a smaller 275 or 285 shouldnt be a problem.

What about the Brake disk? would that move out as well? Then it would not line up with the caliper.

 

Yes, when you switch to using the 5lug hubs a new brake setup must be included as well as the rotor offset AND rotor bolt pattern have changed. I do 4x4 vented 5lug setups as well as my more recent 13" Xtreme fronts in 4 or 5lug I haven't yet gotten to posting on my webshop (but will be up soon!).

I'm using 40 offset wheels all front and back on my 72 240Z. 300ZX 5 lug fronts, rears are 280 stubs drilled for 5 lugs using 1.5" spacers. My rear track width is about 1" wider than the front, but the tires still fit in the wheel well, no flares needed as far as I can tell. Tires are 225/45 17, using coilovers with 9" springs in the rear I still have loads of room for wider tires. I'm still working on brake issues, need to make brackets for mazda RX-7 4 piston calipers to fit on 12" toyota supra rotors front and rear. I'll try to post some pics later.

i would like to do a five lug swap somedays, how hard is it on the rears anyway, i loathe having to remove the stub axle assembly when it works well. if i only had five lug though, i would rock the starion 16x8 and 16x9 combo, i can get those rims for like nothing local, and it kills me they got to be five lug!!!!!!!

It certainly takes a bit of elbow grease but no rocket science at all. grind a relief on opposite sides of the companion flange large nut where it's 'pinched', use large prybar/socket/impact gun etc for removal (brace stub axle wheel studs for a strong reaction force)....beg/borrow a slide hammer from your local friend/auto shop to remove stub axle and it's apart.....been done by many on this board. It'd take me 1/2 hour per side max. now if I already had halfshafts and rear brakes removed.
