Guest norm[T12SDSUD]
Well, after waiting a while to get hold of a good diesel crank I am finally back up and running again after working the last week and then 14 hours straight today I decided against the short stroke motor since the only added power was above 6000 rpm and I didn't think turning it up to 7500-8000 rpm was the way to go with the past crank breakage issues. I had the crank, flywheel and pressure plate and New Euro damper balanced at the machine shop. It was pretty close to being dead on according to the shop so in a way it was wasted money, but the peace of mind is worth the $60 it cost me to have it done. I went with a 21 lb flywheel instead of my 24 lb. I had it resurfaced and balanced so it now might be down to 20-20.5 lbs. The engine runs excellent and is very smooth. I also rebuilt my old special tranny that had a bad second gear. It shifts SOOOOOO Good now that I almost don't want to abuse it at the track!! LOL Honestly though, I am about sick of getting covered in grease and dirt laying under the car on my garage floor and this bench pressing the tranny and crankshaft into place is getting a bit old as well!! I know I have taken that tranny off for one reason or anotherat least 20 times in the last 8 years(clutch explosion, failed clutches, loose flywheels, broken crankshafts, broken shift forks, broken shift fork pins, failed counter shaft bearings, broken synchronizes, regearing adventures, etc.) Well ,anyway it's good to be back up and running again! Scottie-GNZ
Lets hope this one stays together for a couple of months and you plan on joining us in GA in Sept. You are an inspiration to many Zers, especially those who want to stay L6 NA, and it would be great to have you there.

jeffp
I was almost going to send you a mail today about the crank. I pulled one yesterday and it looks excellent, But I thought you most likely already got one. Regarding working on the car, I cant agree more. I have a TKO2, a new diff with the Quaife, oil pan, turbo header, turbo, modified downpipe, radiator, electric fan, electric water pump, new damper, bronze pump drive gear, manual rack and pinion, new drive line(still not built) and moded strut rods again, all waiting to be installed, and I am sick and tired of getting under my car also. This is the last hardware upgrade I am going to do to the car, it is just going to have to be good enough. then to finish it all up, an upgrade to the fuel management with 72Lb injectors. I dont have to do the tuning, but I sure got to make the fuel rail, again, and buy the injectors and pay Clark to tune the car. Thats it for me. This has definetly been an exercise in patience for me, and an exercise in temperance dealing with some of these guys selling me parts. Well anyway, I think your car will hold together good with a good damper on the front of the crank.
Guest norm[T12SDSUD]
Yeah guys working on our Z's reminds me of one of a quote I heard years ago. "If you wanna make a small fortune in drag racing, the best way to do it is to start off with a large fortune!" hehe I'd like to make it down to the track Scottie, but Sundays just don't work out for me unfortunately. I know you three guys have also spent allot of "quality family time" underneath your Z's as well. It's a love - hate relationship sometimes!!
