Honda Facts or Fiction???

Yesterday a guy I know is telling me all apout his friends and how they all have these highly modified cars (running 10's and 11's in the quarter mile of course  ). I'm listening to all his stories (bullshit) and just nodding my head. Some of the things he is telling me might be true but this guy is known to stretch  the truth. The one thing I had a problem with was he was telling me these guys have Hondas and Integras as beater cars with type R motors from the prelude and that they just drop in. He then said that with nothing more than exhaust and a chip they will run mid 13 sec quarter mile times, beating Z28's and such. Is this really true?? I would wadd thru the Honda sites myself but I just don't have the stomache for that crap. Those sites semmed to filled with patholigical liers :? .

This guy currently drives a BMW, and it is a nice car, but he is one of those guys that thinks BMW is the best car out there. I told him how the G35 smokes the BMW in every category and is cheaper, he immediatley said BMW has a sportier model coming out with more horsepower and better handling. Again, I don't know maybe it's true. Either way, after hours of listening to crap I had my fill. Amazing, the guy thinks he knows all about cars, and doesn't even change his own oil. I just thought I would share. Oh by the way, yes I plan on finding out what is bull when I get my 280Z running with the turbo motor and a new hybid in it.

this should give you a good idea :)

Notice all the mods (including an engine swap)...and notice the best ET to date :) 1/8th mile: 8.53sec

While this is "fast for a honda"...given all the work thats done....and its running comparable speeds to a STOCK LS1 fbody....a car simply doing a "type R motor swap" isnt going to be hanging with anything.

spposedly, prelude h22 or watever thy are motors drop right into integras, and have about 200-something hp(whoo ha!) but thats a hell of a lot better than a civic or integra.

umm, as I honda prelude owner myself, I think I should chime in and say THERE IS NO PRELUDE TYPE R damnit. There is a Prelude Type S JDM spec car, which pushes 220hp because of higher compression, but really you could just take a USDM h22 and stick in Type S pistons and bam, there you have it. I these morons driving around with Prelude Type R stickers. There is no such thing. damned idiots.

On another note, I've never heard of hondas responding particularly well to being chipped. A 220hp type S motor in one of the old civic hatchbacks might be able to run mid 13s, but Im saying it would at least need new vtec lobes on the cam, and intake/exhaust. That might even get it into the low 13s

My friend's running a 200hp H22 in an older accord which is slightly heavier than the civic hatch, and he's got intake/headers, plus some small stuff and lots of tuning, and he runs 14 flat. So it could be done. BTW, I've seen the car run low 14s with my own eyes, so this is no BS.

oh, one more thing. The h22 doesnt drop straight into the integra, you'll need new motor mounts to the tune of $600 or so. However it does drop straight into the accord, which had the F series motor. In fact, there was a prelude with an F series motor too. Very similar motors. The Fs are just more econobox.

my buddies honda civic coupe with a B16a, self ported head with a three angle valve job, civic type R cams, and some nutty 11:1 total cr

with a LSD 4.7 Type R transmission runs 15.2@88mph, he was at the track with me- that guy shifts that thing at 9400 rpm with a vtec controller that makes it come on at 7k!, and we saw a stock civic coupe run a 16.0!!! he was pissed.

hes more of a rotary guy than a honda guy, thats his excuse, but he looked like he was having a ball in that little car though, launching 5500 and powershifting second, we were all having a blast at the track, thats for sure. Another friend of mine runs a turbo non vtec 1.8 liter and runs

13.5! I lined up with him and he blew off a coupler after the 60 foot(1.9!), and got eliminated, thats the only thing that saved me from getting ran by that little civic!! fun little cars, if they were rwd id give em a shot for sure, but they arent, so i wont.

this the same integra guy I met?

My prelude ran 16.2@87, and I know if I had continued to push it, I could've probably gotten a 16.1 out of it. Now if I had a manual transmission, I expect it would have been closer to 15.4 or so. So that one guy running a 15.2 seems rather pathetic to me. Although indeed the B16 is one tiny little motor.

well if u wanna talk about liers! this kid has a really gutted, turbo built motor neon... its quick, but he said he raced a modded ACR viper from a 45mph and beat it by like 3 cars.

so im think. wow its fast. well he raced my friend with his 1994 Civic HB, gutted, with a H22A motor, mild built, 55 shot of NAWZ BABY (lol), and his car isnt even running 100%, and the civic killed it by like 4 cars.. and i beat the civic with my dads Z06..

i hate liers, i hate ricers, but i cant stand it when ricers lie!

im not a ricer...

a ricer is stuff on cars that dont belong, and just look stupid. like clear tail lights, neons under the car, tire flys, 19in chrome bling bling rims that weigh 46lbs each on a "racing" model civic. also hugh shift tachs and shift lights on a car thats stock. and the 5inch tipped muffler on its stock exhaust piping. thats abit what a ricer is..

i dont even have any of that stuff on my Z, nor on any of my other cars i owned.... i dont even have a muffler that works right.

he must be talking about me. I've got clear corner lights and clear turn signals on my HONDA prelude. (the originals were cracked and I've got to sell the car, but hey, rice is rice.) And the car was gutted for a while, with all the classic silly ricer mods done to it. no PS, CAI, etc...

if that makes me a ricer, well color me guilty.

There is a big difference between what a setup should run and what the owner is capable of making it run. A Civic with the Prelude engine, chip, exhaust, filter and decent tires should run at least mid-13s. There are several in Orlando that does. BTW, a 8.53 1/8-mile is a 13.36 1/4-mile and typically FWD does not do well in the 60'.

Would you believe someone if they told you their bone-stock Neon :D :D ran 14.1s? Well, I saw it with my own eyes last night. One of the local Dodge dealers had a new Neon SST out testing it last night for a big promotion and after they were able to get the wheelspin under better control (it still spun too much), it ripped off a 14.19 @ 97+

You are going to hear a lot about this car in the near future and people who look down on these little 4-bangers are going to be in for a rude awakening.

Scottie, do you mean the SRT turbo Neon. Magazines are quoting low 14 second times with these cars, as well. They also say that they can do a mid to high 5 second 0-60. They say they are underated from the factory and are putting as much as 223 hp at the wheels.

I know it translates to mid 13s...however I was pointing out all the work that had to go into that car to get it there.

That car had been completely gutted...lexan windows...slicks..and a motor swap...cant even complete a 1/4 mile run.

So..saying you could just "do a motor swap" and run 13s is ridiculous :)

As for the the new turbo neon...those things are amazing for the cost (under 20 grand). come with boost gauges, intercoolers...and not even 1bar of boost stock?

Thats a modders dream right there. Id bet low 13s or high 12s are only a boost controller away :)

my friend don has a '98 neon r/t. it's an n/a motor, 2liter stock shortblock with stock head, all bolt ons possible, custom manifold, ecu. and he ran 13.5 on slicks at mason dixon. Dynoed 197whp, 149 tq. Weighed in at 2460 with him in the car. Full interior, no weight reduction

SRT 4's suck!

every single time im at the track these things run high 14's to mid 15's. ONCE i saw a 14.4 but the car had drag radials and a boost controller.

the car is all hype.

i mean i dont care if its underated and all but its still FWD....
