hey! i found a head in a junk yard or mabe a grave yard full of z's! anyway, its an e88 and i asked how much and he said 75 if you pull it and i said coo! so now what im asking is should i buy it and take it to a machine shop, you see i still don't know if i what to build a n/a or turbo! then i saw a couple of intake manifolds, so my next question is which one is the best for air flow? i saw one that said p71? what year did that one come one and is it pretty good for air flow? any help is greatly appretiated (can't spell, lol).

Welcome to HybridZ.

It depends on which E-88 head it is.

There is 1 E-88 head that was an emissions head (73 / 74 I think). It has a crappy combustion chamber and is junk !

72 came with a "good" E-88 head (as far as combution chambers, but had small valves).

Now, if you go turbo a P-90 head would be a good find (NOT a P-90A).

If you go NA, an N-42 would be hard to beat !

Just my opinion.

I would not use an e88 on a turbo engine. Thats just me though. If you want to turbo it, I would run a P90, or some P90a's have solid lifters, based upon what I was told in another thread on this board. JUst don't run the hydraulic P90a.

your probably not going to want to go turbo with the e88. The P series heads are preferable(P90 is the best) when going turbo because of their larger combustion chamber size and shape, where as the e88 has a smaller chamber and less desirable shape. if you plan on using efi you will have someone to cut out a notch at the top of the intake port to make room for the injector(brain fart, don't remember what its called). The e88 will be nice for a carbed NA engine.

I really don't want to get into that "this heads better than that head" war with anyone.... if you search the archives, it's already been done... argue.gif

At the time, I was just diving into the turbo world and spoke with Dave Rebello, and I let him suggest which head to use.

So far, I have no complaints with it.

No EFI provision on the E88 head inless you machine the head. 8)

I just put a EFI gasket on the head and marked, then about 12 min. later.. I had a EFI ready head.

The part that was more of a challange, was the drilling and heilicoil of the holes needed for a EFI intake manifold... :D

Yeah, I had to get my head welded so there would be enough metal for the center two EFi intake mounting holes. It can be done but not worth the cost. IMO. I do have a .080" milled E88 head with N47 valves and steel seats that I used to run on EFI motor.
