12 psi and not holding..

Hey guys I'm having some difficulties with my set up... seems like I have a bit too much hp. Is that possible..

 

well it is, when you nail the throttle..the rpms rise then fall before the car gets up and moves.... :fmad:

 

Seems my clutch won't hold 12 psi... dang it all. the car was just coming to life...

 

Help.. i need a clutch recomendation for an 87 300zxt t5.

 

I have had a lot of success with CF II's... but learning here on this board, I may have been the exception..or I never had enough hp to break it...

David, I'm sure you didn't mean anything by your comment...but it is insulting and unnecessary.

 

Remember that it is not the Canadians who are "yellow," just the Americans who ran up there to escape the draft!!!!

Uh, please retract your comment, its a thing over on the 'other' Z sites about the canadians liking yellow,....goes along the same lines as us calling each other Bastards and all. You just wouldnt understand, but im SURE ZR8ED will. Thanks.

As a Canadian I have no idea what the yellow reference is towards, but when I read it at first I thought the same thing Davy did... The last thing we need here is more closed minded insults flying around IMHO, in jest or not. Since you made the comment, perhaps you can explain it David?

back to clutches, zr8ed i feel your pain. just went to 11psi today,

and clutch isnt holding for crap in third gear, too much load for the sucker

im looking at exedy and act for solutions right now, ive heard that exedy makes act clutches, and act paints the pressure plate yellow.

I certainly know OF him, but have never met him... I haven't had time in the last couple years with school to get to local car events, even Z ones. Chances are I'll get over to the big one in Vancouver this september though, in which I am sure many of those guys will be around.

I went with the act for my 280zxt...pushing just over 20psi on my T3/T04E and still holding...but I think it's getting towards its limit. If I run it back to back for 6-7 passes in hot weather I can start to feel a little slip. For your setup I think it should be plenty. As long as I drive sanely...not hotlaping all day at the track, I still don't have any problems with regular racing.

how does that act feel, i mean street driving, hope not real stiff, drive too much and encounter stop and go sometimes, dont want a real stiff clutch, but ah yes, i should of thought of that before this whole turbo thing.....oh well

Well I'm still waiting on my clutch.

 

I've read all the posts I could find here on different brands and such, and well..none seem to stand out as easy to set up and reliable.. they seem to fall into one category or another.

 

I called my buddies at a Nissan dealer, that stocks just about everything for our Z's (parts manager was our club pres) hehe we talked clutches, as many of our crazier members are getting into some high hp applications.

 

He recommended a clutch made by Bully. they are up in Ottawa, and do custom clutches. They have some experience with Z's as well. After some conversations, I ordered one. It will take 1.5 weeks to make up and ship to Nissan, then another few days to ship to me. It seems a bit of a risk for me, but I'll get over it I suppose.

 

car is still running great.. I have reset the boost back to 8 psi to give me some leaway. I may be able to sell my clutch to a 300zxt guy running stock or near stock boost.

 

Its a good thing no one has called me out at a light.. well.. besides hondus, and cavuleers hehe Word has gone around the local hang outs, that the car is meaner than it looks! hehe I have been doing lots of cuising, and passing through the hangouts.. just enough throttle to show'em some blow off valve. that'll hold em at bay for a while. hehe :twisted:
