Contempating RB swap....

I’m sitting here dreaming about a powerplant for my Z. I say “dreaming†because

at the moment I haven’t the money to do any serious planning. Now I am focusing on

body- work, interior restoration, brakes, drive-line & basic suspension items.

I want 300 to 350 HP (flywheel). Getting 300+ HP out a L28 may be possible, but

not very streetable in a fair-weather, daily driver kind’a way. I love the smooth

power of an inline 6 and the thump of a big V8, but I do lean towards the inline 6.

I’ve narrowed my options down to either a LS1 or a RB26DETT. I THINK the

LS1 would be, in the long run, the less expensive option, but I really love inline 6’s

and I really want to explore that option..

My questions for you RB’ers are…

Where did get your RB26DETT and about how much was the cost?

Where are you getting parts for these engines?

What modifications are required on the engine to make it work in a Z?

What modifications are required on the car?

I read that the RB oil-pan must be replaced or modified. Does anybody sell the correct or modified oil-pan?

Do you know of any website that gives good, detailed information about the swap?

Thanks, Boob…

RB26's are cool but if you only want 300 flywheel hp any RB turbo can supply that with out too much effort, considering the RB26 is about $3500 USD and the RB20DET is (in NZ anyway) is $800 USD

opps forgot to log in, also I have spent $3700 NZD ($1850 USD ish) so far and the performance shop I'm getting the rest of the engine hooking up quoted $2000 NZD ($1000 USD ish) more to finish the conversion (RB25DET though)

1989 - 1993 ish = r32

1994 - 1999 ish = r33

2000 - 2003 ish = r34

the years might be out but it is the different skyline models

I have not yet done either of these swaps I am saving for the RB and learnign in the meantime, one little note with the Chevy LS1 you get "chevy reliability" which is all fine and good for a Chevy but from a datsun that seems like a low standard  sorry just had to say it

A LS1 would be SO much cheaper to build and maintain than a RB26 swap.

A friend of mine bought a complete LS1 car (totalled, rear ended) for $500... And you can buy parts at the corner drug store for the thing. And if your shooting for 300 @ fly, your there already (cause you'll need a new exhaust anyway ;) )
