mobythevan
I am running L28ET in 73 240z. I need to install fan blades, but they have to be from 280zx to clear the extra pulley on the engine. I am running 280z radiator with the turbo engine. I only have less than 3.5 inches between the water pump pulley and the radiator. I tried to fit an electic taurus and buick fan, but no way, even after hours of trimming. Do you guys know if the 280zx fan blades would fit, I guess I just need to buy some and see. I have seen people say that they stick to far forward and will hit the radiator. Does anyone have a fan blade from 280zx for reasonable price, I could just try this out. I only need the blades, not the clutch.
SleeperZ
I may have one, plus clutch, you can have fo nothin'. $10 shipping will cover it for sure, I'll check to make sure I still have it. Or you could come up to Denver and get it - be cool to get together with another Zhead.
mobythevan
Let me know if you have one and we'll get together. I'd like to check your car out.
Guest jt240z
Are you using the extra front pulley for something? If not, you can remove it by taking the small screws out of the front. You can then use the stock 280Z clutch and fan setup without any interference problems.
mobythevan
Oh, that's bad, I never even looked at the pulley, I figured it would all be one unit. See, I'm really a chevy guy. I'll check that out tonight, thanks
Synlubes
What about using an electric pusher mounted in frt of the radiator ?
mobythevan
Could do that, I was just trying things out that I had laying around already. Sonner or later I will have that intercooler up front though...
mobythevan
Sure enough, I just removed the extra pulley, had six bolts holding it on. Now I am using my 240/260 plastic blade clutch fan, no problems. Just wanted to follow up in case somebody looks this up in the future. Mudge
Moby, I had to shave my fan, but using the 240 pulley woulda coulda shoulda worked too, didn't have time to pull it though. I thought I was using my 240Z fan too, maybe I didn't, hmm.
mobythevan
I used the water pump pulley that was on the 280zx engine. I used fan blades that came from 240z. I removed the extra pulley from the 280zx engine that was bolted onto the front of the harmonic balancer. Just to clarify.
