Guest bastaad525
Alright this is just a thought, and I know it's a cheesy one, but, has anyone ever tried rigging the 7th injector (cold start injector) that's already present on the intake manifold, to come on and off with a switch or at WOT or something? Would it be possible to use that injector this way to provide extra fuel only when you want/need it? Is it the same size as the other six and can it flow the same amount of fuel? I'd think this would be a great easy way to get extra fuel in there to help detonation when doing WOT runs or whatever. Any thoughts? SleeperZ
It's a POS. It has a terrible spray pattern and it won't flow a significant amount of fuel. Truly, I am a cheap bastard on a budget, but I won't touch that.
fl327
people like to frown on it, but im leaning towards doing something like that. one injector in or near the tb, and one where the csv is. i dont think stock that it is a full size injector, just helps a bit with the cold starts like it says. now plumb two 650cc injectors into the mix, now were talkin!!!! that may be my recipe, or my suicide formula, for getting 1bar from my t04e bb turbo. Guest bastaad525
Can I replace the injector with another stock injector like the 6 that feed the engine directly? Is the port that it screws into the same size?
fl327
for some strange reason, i doubt that a normal injector fits right there, but do try it. i have to get an n42 manfold, but they are cheap so no big deal there, and see for myself too, or i am going to have my buddy machine it out for me to fit, or drill it out and have an injector bung welded up right there. if a normal sized injector will bolt in, I WILL. z-ya
If you want to add additional injectors, I suggest upstream of the throttle body, not in the intake. You will get better fuel distribution across all cylinders. Spraying it where the cold start injector is may cause some cylinders to run lean. Not a good thing, especially when running positive manifold pressure. I'm looking into adding a couple of 36lb/min injectors in the intercooler plumbing about 1 foot before the TB. My aftermarket ECU supports staged injection, so I plan on using that feature. SDS make a nice extra injector controller (EIC) for people running the stock electronics. Guest bastaad525
That was actually my next question. I had no idea how well any extra fuel coming in right there would get to all six cylinders. Anyways it was just a thought I'm a LONG ways off from needing extra injectors on my car.
Nigel
The cold start injector is a totally different design to the other six. It's just a small solenoid with a skinny tube with a hole in it that sticks into the intake. I seem to recall hearing that it only flows something like 75cc's. Hardly worth it, as has already been mentioned. Nigel '73 240ZT
S130Z
would anyone happen to know of a reason why my car will not run when my cold start injector is plugged in? even when my car is warmed up it will still shut off when i plug it in.

S130Z
electrical connected.
Nigel
I suspect it's internally shorted and it's overloading the ECU. Check the resistance of the injector using a multi-meter. I'm not sure if the cold start injector is high or low impedance, but if you get a reading of 0 Ohms, then something is wrong...
