Guest bigjim240z
ok..i rebuilt my engine, just a basic refresh with rings , bearings and valve job. when i start my z in the morning it runs real rough and is a little harder to start than it should be, and its not cold out..its summer here in california..once it runs for a few minites it runs better. it kinda smokes too during the warmup period..when i redid the motor it got a full tune up and all. could i have bad injectors, or cold start, afm?..im thinking of just selling it and buying a sentra or somthing to be my daily driver...(i have a 240z for my weekend toy so the zx is not a keeper)..i also notice if i really run it hard it will puff a little smoke..is the car running too rich? SleeperZ
More info please. How was it running before the rebuild? What sort of smoke? Have you checked (double-checked?) your cam timing and ignition timing? Verified you have no new vacuum leaks? Those are the obvious things when diagnosing... Guest bigjim240z
the car didnt run at all...it had major engine failure..so i got a junk yard motor and rebuilt it...there are no vaccume leaks and the timing it dead on..the car runs ok when warmed up..revs nice, idles well..its just at initial startup...im kinda stumped....i had an old z run very rough at start up..turned out the cat was plugged up bad...but this one has the cat hollowed out...thanks for any advice
Guest CS_280ZX
try checking your cold-start valve, if it is old, check for corrosion build up on the device when you remove it. it will cause the car to run like crap for the first 5mins or so ( usually till it reached the 1st notch on the temp gauge). cheers... Cruez
Make sure the sensor on the passenger side of the engine is connected correctly, or it will run rich and crappy...
