Tim240z
Does anyone know if the regular centerbolt valve cover will fit on the even bank head of the LT1? The OEM has a little 'recess' for the alternator, while the 'normal' centerbolts don't. Iguess I could try one of the valve covers from the vortec heads on my 71 truck, but it's a PITA to pull them because of the plug wire looms! Thanks, Tim
Mudge
Uhh, they sort of fit, but yes the alternator is a problem. So most often people use a hammer or do a little home welding, Mark Montalvo has used some of the big Moroso covers this way, re-welding. Another option is to get a $200 or so adapter to use older SBC stuff, its just a spacer essentially and I supposed it will come with a gasket or you may need 4 total. Easy way to figure this out is pull the other valve cover, it wont fit with the alternator.
fastzcars
Hi tim, I have an old set of center bolt valve covers, if you want them to try out?
Tim240z
Hi tim, I have an old set of center bolt valve covers, if you want them to try out? Thanks for the offer man, but I can take one off my truck to try. Mudge...hammering or welding is not an option....I wanted to get a custom set of engraved valve covers, but they don't do the LT1 covers, only the normal centerbolts (flamingengraving.com). If anyone knows of another shop that does that type of engraving work, PLEEEEZE let me know!! I'd hate to have to put on some generic old covers. My OEM ones are messed up from the chain from the hoist, so I definitely need something. Tim
Mudge
I bought stockers on eBay for probably under $20 and repainted them a silverish color. I'm all about cheap, not big on the blingy blingy, there have been some nice chrome covers made though.
Mike C
Hey Tim, shoulda run the factory style wires on your truck! The Taylors I have using a socket cap and straight cap boots route down the back of the block, underneath the manifolds along the pan rails and up to the plugs. Awesome setup from rams horns or headers, but not good with later model log manifolds. Be careful on the valve covers, at tleast on the 86 TPI motor I had, the covers were not interchangeableend to end because of a taper. (don't put hte right cover on the right side upside down. Boy, is that a confusing sentence...) When reversed, the rockers contacted the valve covers.
Dan Juday
Hey Tim, Found your valve covers on ebay. They specificly state they have the cut out for the alternator. Here you go... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2425300760&category=33627
Tim240z
Thanks Dan!! I was looking at similar units on ebay, but I really wanted a nice set of customized engraved aluminum ones, but the engraving shop won't do anything but their own covers, so I can't buy a set and send them. I guess I will have to settle for now.... Tim

Tim240z
Thanks for the tip! I don't see any mention of the LT1 covers with the 'cutout', but I will call them to see. That's real local for me, from work anyway. Tim
