Guest Anonymous
I have been a member of this site for several months now and this my first post. I have finally sourced a 73 240Z and had the entire thing stripped. I have plans for a rb in my project, but was going to complete the suspension before i do the swap. The question i have is what rear-end options i could go with. I have heard of the r-200, but it the best option out there and easiest to install? Your comments are greatly appreciated. stony
do a search on my posts. depends on what you want to do with it. I have a stock rb26dett with 680cc injectors and 15psi booste and i cant get it out of the hole (drag racing) with breaking something in the rear end. the 2 options im considering is grafting a gtr rear suspension or a for 8.8 or 9 inch rear end. plain and simple you will not be able to mod the stock IRS to handle good traction hi HP launches at the track. if you plan on only street use an r-200 with cv upgrade will work. i went as far as maching my rear struts to accept bigger bearing for the 300z z31 stub shafts, custom chomoly axles and a nismo r-200 LSD. the diff and axles are good now i just broke a stub shaft;< again anything other then drag racing this setup would be greawt ;> good luck. BTW if you have the car stripped id go with a 9 inch ;>
Guest 81na ZX
Options: R180, and break it R200, and break it launching like stony R230 out of a skyline Many, many Dana's from Jeeps or Trucks or F-bodys or Mustangs or Vettes. Ford 9" But be warned, a few Dana's are weaker than a R180. And none are as strong as a 9"
BRAD D
I run a 4:11 R200 from an 85 200SX Turbo in my Rb26 powered 240Z.
stony
the diff is not the problem an r-200 is almost as big and stout as a nine inch its the axles and stub shafts that break. im kina half assed temped to machine the struts for even bigger bearing and have some custom big chromoly stub shafts made. but even after the the nine inch would be stronger over all
fl327
That is one of the universal truths that was imparted to me by a really good race car rear suspension fabricator "When you start going really fast, more of your money starts going into hook, and hooking more than once." BRAD D
"machine the struts for even bigger bearing and have some custom big chromoly stub shafts made" I was thinking the same thing Stony, If I have problems...Going to the track this weekend. What do you do to get your Drag Radials ready? Burn out? PSI? Thanks
stony
18-20 psi, drive around waterbox and backup to the edge. i start the burnout in second gear 4000-5000rpm for 4-5 seconds. i would suggest a rolling burnout. again backup to water box throw it in second do not attempt to hold it back and drop the clutch at like 5000-6000 rpm. then floor it. this should heat up the tires pretty good. do not pass the staging line or you will get in trouble. I went a entire season running low 11s adn not breaking anything with the rolling burnouts and 25 psi. i started breaking things onces i started getting alot of traction. i was OK as long as i spun threw first gear. Guest Anonymous
Another question, this 9" rear? What is it? Where does it come from? And also, would it be wiser to install motor before the suspension components?
BRAD D
A 9" is a ford diff that a lot of racers use because it is strong, you can pull the 3rd member out so it is easy / fast to work on and there is a lot of ratios to pick from
Guest Anonymous
Wow! I just turned 22 today and I am still learnin! I just found out what a cheese knife looks like and that we've had one for so long and never really knew what its purpose was. And now im learning about all this. Aint life great. I the big bomber of em all is my Z cuz I guess my Z is my "real" birthday present since I bought it only 2 days ago, completely stripped down. And now, I am gettin crazy ideas in my head with the help of all you guys. Gracias. As for my ass, I mean my rear, I think sourcing an r-200 from would be pretty simple and cheap task. But until I find out more about the ford option I wont really decide. Damn Im Drizzzunk! Peace!
