SleeperZ
The Z31 turbo and non-turbo are the same size as the 280ZX turbo, at 260cc/min. The 280zx non-turbo are something like 180cc/min. Keep an eye on eBay, I got a used turbo distributor for $10.
Guest Blue02wrx
i have got plenty of turbo dist....but i have a 82 non-turbo car, and it looks like it has a whole lot more junk on it, and i thought they were not interchangable.
JMortensen
It sounds like you are dealing with a non turbo '82 280 ZX dizzy. If so, check this out: http://www.physics.ohio-state.edu/~jrdemers/280ZX/distributor/distributor.html This site is GREAT!!! He gives you the step by step instructions on the teardown/rebuild, and sells new bushings. Really helped me out. JD is a really nice guy too. I just bought a stator and reluctor from Nissan for ~$40. Be aware that the stator did NOT come with the magnet. I don't know where to get the magnet from... Oh, and don't ever trust anyone who tells you, "Yep, that's a good distributor right there. Just plug and play." It sure didn't work for me. Guest Blue02wrx
ok thanks man...anyone know how much a new dashpot costs? i read on a zcar website i think it was zgarage...but it said that if the vacuum advance is not working at all, which mine isnt, the car would run very lean and this is also happeneing. how exactly does that work? i can't figure out how that happens, but when i suck on the vacuum advance hose nothing inside the dist moves and it's just like the hose has an open end. i don't guess i need to replace anything else just the dashpot. does the dist need to come out to replace the reluctor, stator or dashpot, i may just go ahead and buy all of them...thanks for the help all, Brian
JMortensen
Your welcome. You don't NEED to take the dizzy out to get those parts off, but its definitely easier, except maybe for the reluctor. But you said you wanted to rebuild the dizzy, and you need to take it off to check the bushings. Its only 2 10mm bolts anyway. The reason your car would run lean due to the vacuum advance being broken is that you have a vacuum leak, so the engine is drawing fresh air after the fuel injection has determined how much fuel you need. You could just cap the vacuum line on the manifold that goes to the advance dashpot and see if that fixes your lean running issues. Don't have any idea how much the dashpot costs, I decided to go with mechanical advance only and disabled the vacuum completely. Check Courtesy Nissan's website, you'll probably find it there.
