Guest thinkmonkey
I can't believe that I'm considering it because I swore I wouldn't do it, but I think that I want to put some subtle flares on the rear wheel wells of my 240. However, I will only use steel flares, and subtle is the key. Here's a picture of my goal. Somehow I always use this car as my roadmap, it's delicious. Does anyone have a source for steel flares similar to these? Thanks guys. -David

john kosmatka
Man I didnt know that gold zx had a rb in it, that makes it even better. By the way I love the way they continue the rear flares into the door. John
clarkspeed
I wanted a very subtle flare on my Z also. Something that kept the same body lines but didn't really look like a flare. I ended up rolling out the inner fender lips and welding a piece of 3/16" round barstock to the edge for support. I gained about 1.5" of flare and almost 3" of clearance. Enough to get 245/45/16 tires under it. Looks stock unless you put it beside another Z. Guest thinkmonkey
Man I wish I could buy a set of those flares on the red car... -David
Z-Dreamer
Aside from "custom" flares, the only company I know of that offers steel flares is Victoria British and their flares are not subtle (3.5" rear, 2.5" front). That and at $400 a pair (which isn't bad) you'll be spending some coin. http://www.VictoriaBritish.com Mark
Guest thinkmonkey
These 'subtle z' flares look similar to the red cars ones, or is that just me? -David http://www.reactionresearch.com/subtlez.html
Guest Zachb55
i was just thinking of posting that, i do believe that car does have the subtle-z kit on it, a very nice one in my eye! -Zach
DavyZ
...I gained about 1.5" of flare and almost 3" of clearance. Enough to get 245/45/16 tires under it... Nice looking car and an excellent choice of wheels. The clearance you gained with your mods is truly astounding when you consider that your Z body looks "stock." Nice work! gramercyjam
You could fab some. Way back when, guy's used to cut them out from 50 gal barrels, and weld some steel rod around the opening and roll the lip around the rod. --John B
clarkspeed
Thanks DavyZ. It's amazing what can be done with a body hammer and dolly! I have seen custom flares hammered from sheet metal and welded on that looked pretty good also. Not stock looking, but not the huge overhang you get from the big fiberglass pieces.
