zguy95135
i have everything that is on the turbo manifold, turbo compressor, pop off valve ect. i know that you need an ECU. would a 280ZX turbo ECU just go in place of the stock or would there need to be modifications? i also have a turbo fuel pump on the car already. is there anything else that i need? putting a turbo on the car would be awesome but i dont want to go through a lot of trouble since i dont have much money. cygnusx1
We need more details. What year is the motor? Was it an N/A motor originally? Are you adding the turbo "stuff" from a ZXT motor to an N/A Z motor? The N/A fuel injection system will not handle a Turbo without modifications. Typically what you would need is an entire ZXT motor, fuel injection system and some wiring harnesses from 81-83ZXT to make a Z into a Turbo Z. This will get you a fast and durable car. ZXT drivetrains and cars are fairly easily obtained and are not always very costly. I picked up a 100K mile 83 ZXT Car in perfect running condition from ebay for $530. The motor swap was a bit technical but fairly easy. Your lightened flywheel will bolt onto the ZXT motor and you could use a heavy duty 280Z clutch to handle the extra ponies. Dav C. zguy95135
the turbo is from a 81 1/2 ZX(which was stock) which we bought for $10. i would be adding the stuff onto my 75 280Z NA. could you just get the harnesses and a rising rate fuel regulator? i already have a turbo fuel pump on the car. any technical help or a link for the step by step process would help. even if i cant use it it would be a help because my dad bought a running 81 1/2 turbo for $300 and is gonna put the motor his 280 2+2. zguy95135
heres a pic of what i have. its pretty much everything that is attached to the manifold
BayAreaZT
What type of head do you have? If your compression ratio is low enough you can just get the turbo ECU and harness, turbo injectors, and FPR.
zguy95135
its the stock 75 280Z head. what does "FPR" stand for?
Guest szlash280z
you don't need the turbo FPR (FPR is Fuel Pressure Regulator) I ran a stock 78 FPR on my turbo engine. It worked fine until my fuel pump apparently started sh*tting on itself.
zguy95135
so i just get the ECU, harnesses, and injectors? would it just be easier just to get a whole intake manifold w/fuel stuff from a turbo and bolt it together?
BayAreaZT
You need the turbo AFM too. If you still have the dished pistons and N42 head you should be okay for moderate boost levels. I would get an intercooler though. Your compression ratio is slightly higher than a stock ZXT. You could also get a thicker head gasket to lower the CR a little. zguy95135
i just plan on leaving the turbo stock or with minimal mods. if i got all the stuff i need from a U-Pull-It lot do you think i could get it all for about $500 bucks?
