Guest ackkkkmanp
i was reading some arguments about mustangs owners and someone said his aftermarket rims fit right on his 76 z car? is this true?? then thre are tons of aftermarket rims available for a z? this sounds way to true.. i went to centerline and it says that a 17x7 with 4." backspacing will bolt on to a Z? since most backspacing info ive seen is in mm and my math sucks...does this sound about right? please help Paul "hating my 14s" H 77 280z 79 280zx
spdsk8r
I wondered the same thing, so I pulled a Cobra rim from my sons Mustang and tried in on my ZX. Wont fit, Mustang has a smaller bolt circle diameter. They might work with an adapter.
dmyntti
Some aftermarket rims use slots instead of holes for the studs. This is so that they can be a universal fit. These then require a mag wheel lugnut that fits into the slot and when they are all installed they will center up the rim. I am not sure what back spacing is available but I am sure there are universal fit wheels that would work. I am not personally in favor of these slotted wheels though as I have seen them with wear in the slots allowing the wheels to move around and cause a vibration. Just some thoughts. Phantom
The Z uses a 4-bolt, 114.3mm or 4-bolt, 4.5" bolt pattern. Depending on the tire size you use, a '0' offset (3.5" backspacing on a 7" wide wheel) is generally best but a 12mm offset (4" backspacing on a 7" wide wheel) can work, especially if you are using coil-overs. Guest Perry
4 bolt mustang is slightly different bolt circle than Z. I recall it being about a 1/4 inch different in diameter.
Guest torynich
It was mentioned that they were aftermarket wheels. Most of the aftermarket wheels have 2 lug patterns: a 4X4.5 and a 4X4.25 for a total of 8 holes in the wheel. I actually did this myself. I had an 88 Mustang (4cyl) with american racing wheels on it and when I sold it and got my first Z, I kept the wheels and was able to put them on the Z. They kind of tucked in further that I liked but I put up with it.
j260z
i took the old 14" Libras off my 74 260z and bolted them right onto a 64 Mercury Comet with no problems. i know there are other Fords out there that share the same pattern and offset but cannot tell you which.
