RPMS
I'm curious whether other folks have the same feeling that it might not portend good things that dozens of other Hybrid builders have found our little oasis of (in)sanity on the web. I'm of two minds on the subject. 1) No matter what you drive, it's all good, and the more help we can give, the better it will be for everyone, since everyone has something to add in one way or another, and 2) Uh oh.... here come the idiots. Maybe I'm just being stingy and selfish, but it seems that we've formed a great community here, one where VERY few people have had to be blacklisted or banned, and part of me sees these folks coming in and fears that they will bring bad behavior with them. One thing that keeps most of us grounded here on HybridZ is the fact that we have one thing in common - Datsun Z cars. We might not agree on much else at times, but we all share that in common. It's the bedrock on which this site was built. Now, with other makes and models making appearances, that one commonality is going away, and I can see "my hybrid is better than your hybrid" arguments coming up. I don't want to be a jerk and say "No, you can't come in here", but at the same time I don't want my little corner of the world polluted. That's happened to me too many other times on too many other boards not to worry about it. What do y'all think?
denny411
I don`t see a problem with occasional posts on other hybrids, as long as whoever is posting is respectfull of what we are doing. Anyone who would dare to come in here and try to start a "My hybrid is BETTER than your hybrid" arguement should be banned immediately. I personally have respect for ALL types of hybrids and the ingenuity and skill that it takes to build them. BTW... My 280 is not the only hybrid I`m working on. I`m also planning an FI V6 5spd swap into my wifes MGB. It won`t be a race car but should be much more reliable, as well as more fun to drive. Guest zfan
I can see where Scott is coming from but agree with Denny. As long as folks behave and are constructive I think it is cool. Most of my friends drive some form of Hybrids with V8's in them just not Datsun/Nissan. They have meet some of the members here down at Ennis a few months ago and everyone seemed to really enjoy everyone elses cars/Idea's. Tim240z
I think that the difference comes in where it's a brand new member, posting his first time about a non-Z hybrid. I frown on that. If it's a long time member who has contributed a bunch to the site, now that's an entirely different story. Just my 2c worth. As long as it doesn't get out of hand, it's all good. James Hamm
I agree as long it does not drag on forever and it doesn't become a flame war. We are a resource about conversions and it's expected/assumed that that we know about other conversions. In addition to my Z, I have a converted my Porsche 911 and 944. Whenever I open the hood of any of the three, people always want to what other cars can be done. I'm sure this has happened to all of us. I doubt we would be real car guys if we didn't take a few minutes to pass on some info we have in our misdirected brains.
Owen
I think even a brand new member coming in and asking about a non Hybrid is ok, as long as he isn't a jerk, etc. Maybe the newbie just wants to know how our swaps are done so he can get ideas for his. My EFI system on my SBC is a FAST (formerly Speedpro) but I got my best information from the turbobuick.com site. In the aftermarket EFI section, the majority are Buicks but there are also Hondas and Chevys. As long as the people have a genuine need and are respectful, I don't mind helping them. Guest Nic-Rebel450CA
I think the basic issue is that we arent as concerned about what is happening now, but what may result from it. I think that if we welcome brand new members in to make posts about non-Z cars then that will become a pattern and eventually there will be tons of newcomers doing the same. I agree that if a long time member has questions about non-Z related swaps then it is fine, but if a newcomer who has nothing to do with Z's comes in I say they are welcome to search, but shouldnt be allowed to continue a thread. As a note, I have posted questions about non-Z related conversions, and both times I actually requested that folks contact me off the site because I felt that it should not be included in the site. After a few gurus suggested that I post the info on the site for others I realized that some of the info is universally beneficial to others. I just dont think a newcomer should be welcome to post about any vehicle they wish.
Guest Thurem
Ideally there could be a forum for this kind of discussion. I´m finding I might have to look elsewhere for my swap, as Mexico does not allow importation of sportscars (ie. 2 seaters), some weird rules. I´m starting to think a Supra might be the ticket, will even be able to use the wheels I allready have. Thure
80LS1T
Well I havent really notice an increase in this type of "flaming wars" yet but I hope that it doesnt become an issue down the road. I really like seeing pics and info on crazy hybrids(like the Mazda LS1!) and I dont mind if guys post info on other hybrids but if they start posting about how fast their car is and how it could smoke every Z/ZX on the board then I really frown on that. It's kinda like what has happen to most of the Chevy sites that I have been on...Ford guys come on just to piss off the Chevy guys. Its really childish and I dont want to see that happen here! Oh and Thurem.... I´m finding I might have to look elsewhere for my swap' date=' as Mexico does not allow importation of sportscars (ie. 2 seaters), some weird rules. I´m starting to think a Supra might be the ticket, will even be able to use the wheels I allready have.Thure[/quote'] Or you could use a 2+2?
