Guest Big Geek
I was wondering if anyone has used a 15x8 rim the rear of a 240 w/o fender flares. I have a 7-in rim on it now with a 26x8.5 slick and the car has been 9.52 (1/4 mile) in this configuration but I would really like to put an 8-in rim on the car w/o going to fender flares. That slick on a 7-in rim tends to dance around on the top end at 150-mph. Can anyone help? Thank you in advance for all thoughts. Cheers !!! Jim C. Guest Aaron
9's on a 7" rim, WOW!
blueovalz
I guess I need not comment on the timesheet, so with that already said, I, as well as others here, have put 8" wide wheels under OEM sheetmetal with OEM sized springs. I personally had 16" X 8" under mine, but, this was with DOT low aspect ratio tires. Drag slicks would be iffy in this case as the sidewalls are quite different. Guest Big Geek
The tire size in question is a 255/60-15 on a 15x8 rim. I am not sure what to think of the "time" comments but rest assured I can back it up. I didn't come here to start anything nor take anything, only to post a question. Just because someone is new to this site please don't make the mistake of thinking that they are F.O.S. The time in question it 9.52@152 (1/4) and 6.42@110 (1/8) with a 1.52 short time. The nitrous is set up on a progressive system with the intial hit at 100-hp (60-ft mark roughly hence the high MPH vs. the E.T.) and the other 200 brought on after 1.5 seconds. Nick Scavo saw the car run here in Montgomery while the NMCA was here and couldn't believe that I was still running the stock R-200 (4.11's) either. I am not the only one here with a Z that is that fast but not everyone is a "net head" here in Montgomery. You are welcome to believe what you like. The combo is as follows 13.8:1 Ross pistons, Brodix Track one heads ported by Panhandle Performance. Chet Herbert Solid Roller .620-in .640-ex 254/260@0.50, 1050 Dominator, Victor JR manifold, Sportsman Fogger, Neal Chance Convertor 4800-RPM, TH-350, Yadda, Yadda, Yadda !!! I do have some pics of the car but they are not digital and to be honest that is NOT the point. I can be found at Montgomery, Motorsports Park most Fridays. The current configuration in the car is a 87 Grand National motor as I wa tearing the framerails out of the car with the other motor. I do however still have access to it if needed. The motor is currently in an 87 Mustang Coupe and runs 8.80's on a 250-shot. I would not make a habit out of assuming that others are not capable of what they post as it can come back to bite you. Then again maybe I just found the wrong place to post. Cheers !!! Jim C. P.S.- I am familiar with Scottie GNZ. He is the one that reccomended this site to me but maybe I should just stay over on the TB board. If anyone would like to put their money up I would be willing to but the motor back in and run it here locally suffice that the transaction is on the "up and up". There is a member here named David Lavity that bought the most recent motor out of the car and it was much more mild that the other (10.5:1 Dart Headed motor.) and I went 11.20's on the motor and 10.30's on a 175-shot. He has it in his Datsun now so e-mail him insted of being snide towards me. My numbers are as follows if anyone would like to speak with me. 334-206-3480 Office 334-270-2377 Home 334-850-0258 Cell Cheers !!!
RPMS
Jim, Breathe in... Breathe out... Man, you're going to last very long if something this minor riles you up! You're new here, so you probably have no idea how many folks come onto this board who are all hat and no cattle. "Yeah, I got a 700 horsepower engine that gets 40 mpg and turns an 8 second quarter mile. Can I show timeslips? Uh...." You just inadvertently stepped into a big pile of crap left behind by your predecessors. Don't take it personally, just realize that most folks that claim a 9 second quarter are lying. Welcome to the board!
ToplessZ
Welcome aboard. The 15x8 inch rim should fit stock fender wells with no problem unless there is a rediculous offset involved. I have 265 50 15's on my car and they are pretty close to fitting under stock fenders. Id say your car has coil overs so 0 offset should fit that combo nicely. Sounds like an awesome car by the way. Time for more cagework it sounds like then you could put that beastly motor back in and scare some more people. Trust Rpms when he says you are very welcome here and we are all happy to have you aboard. I have to admit that it almost sounding like an I have a honda civic with 17x7's and am running 9's nothing against you at all it just gets heard alot. Please be frequent here we could all benefit from your knowledge and hopefully we could help you out.
Guest Nic-Rebel450CA
Holly goat nuts! A combined 300HP NOS with 13.8 compression! Curious how the mustang gets a better time with less NOS and weighing more. Is that a real coupe, or a glass shell on a tube chassis? BTW, What engine is that? blueovalz
My lack of comment on the timesheet simply meant that the "wow" was already made obvious and there was no need for another. Text only communication, if not precise, lacks much and can be easily misconstrued . It appears you've got everything working together very well to obtain these quick times. Guest Big Geek
Folks, if I misunderstood the comments then please accept my appolgies as I do not try and make a habit of getting riled but it does happen on occaasion. I can be rather sensitive when it comes to boards as it seems that there are a ton of critics out there that believe if they haven't done it then it can't be possible. Again, I do appologize for coming across as cross if your comments were well meant. As for the motor it was a 4.030 350 Dart small block with a Cola crank, Carillo rods and Ross pistons. The cam was gorund on a 104 centerline (Talk about cylinder pressure combined with that much compression [13.8:1] and a 300-shot !!!). It was always sprayed with VP-116 in the tank. As for why the Mustang was faster it is because he could leave on the bottle as I could not when the motor was in the Datsun. I wouldn't spray it until roughly the 60-ft mark. Before the I put the motor in the Datsun I too had it in an 89 Black Mustang Coupe with coilovers and a ladder bar set up. It ran consistant 5.70's in the 1/8th. That was before we got a 1/4 mile track here. It ran those times at the Old Selma Rd. track as well as Selma and Lassiter Mountain. I got tired of getting my butt handed to me while street racing (STUPID and young) so I stuck the motor in the Datsun and sold the Mudstain. I can appreciate the lack of tolerance regarding the bogus claims to fame and I have seen my fair share of it. When confronted with those types I chose try and choose the "high road" and let their stupidity speak for itself. I would be more than happy to help any of ya'll replicate these times and would be happy to give you every spec down to the last nut and bolt if anyone is intersted in copying this combo. Thanks for the kind words and the clarification. Regarding the 8-in rim I am now looking at possibly using a 235/60-15 BFG Drag Radial on an 8-in rim. I am using a Koni spring and strut setup but they are not coil overs. Being as such is it stil possible to use the 8-in rim? The 7's that are on their now have a 4-in back spacing. Any thoughts? Cheers !!! Jim C. P.S.- In my experience the key to keeping the half shafts in the car while running those times is HIGH rpm HP instead of low and mid range TQ. I was shifting right around 8000-rpm on the gas. If you chose to replicate this combo please be forewarned that you WILL have to reinforce the framerails as even on the progressive N2O setup it will tear the frame rails away from the body after a while. 240Z_Master
Anyone know the stock offset of the slotted mags? Also will 15x8 with a 0 offset fit underneath a stock suspention and stock body? Same question above, will 15x8 with -12 offset fit in the rear or up front?
blueovalz
It is very close to fitting. This comment is based on some custom wheels I had fabricated (16" instead of 15") that had a backspacing of 4-9/16" which is only 1/16" offset. Only an accurate measurement with the known tires that you will be using can answer this question as tires will be very important here. BillZ260
Big Geek, I have found the guys on this board to be totally supportive towards everyone. Browse some of the posts an you will see what I mean. No one will dispute the claims made if they are reasonable and you don't come off as arogant, which by the way you did not. I love this forum, and hope you find it as helpful as I have. Enjoy
